While on a fishing expedition, the Essex ship, commanded by young Captain George Pollard (Benjamin Walker) and experienced first mate Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), is attacked by a giant whale. No one could have predicted that the usually docile whale would harbor such a deep hatred for humans.
This event inspired author Herman Melville to write the famous novel Moby Dick. However, the real story behind the whale attack is even more terrifying. In The Heart of the Sea focuses on the desperate struggle for survival of the remaining crew members as they endure a harrowing 90-day journey, both on the sea and on land.

4. Life of Pi - The Life of Pi (2012)
The film tells the story of an Indian boy, the son of a zookeeper. His family migrates to Canada, but their ship is caught in a disaster while crossing the Mariana Trench. Pi becomes the sole survivor on a lifeboat, accompanied by a hyena, a zebra, a rat, an orangutan, and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The hyena kills the zebra and orangutan, but soon after, the tiger devours all four animals. Pi is left to struggle for survival against the tiger.
As days pass, both Pi and Richard Parker are near starvation, until they drift onto a mysterious floating island, abundant with edible plants, a mangrove forest, and a large colony of meerkats. Both Pi and Richard Parker regain strength and sustain themselves. However, at night, the island turns into a dangerous environment. Richard Parker returns to the lifeboat, and the meerkats sleep in the trees while the freshwater lake proves to be acidic, digesting dead fish trapped in the basin. Pi discovers that the island harbors carnivorous plants after finding a human tooth in one of the flowers. The next day, Pi and Richard Parker leave the island on the lifeboat.
Eventually, the lifeboat reaches the shores of Mexico. Pi, severely weakened, is ignored by Richard Parker, who leaves the boat and disappears into the jungle. Pi is rescued and taken to a hospital, emotionally overwhelmed by his miraculous survival.

5. Pirates of the Caribbean 2: The Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann's wedding is interrupted by Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Company, who holds a grudge against them for aiding Captain Jack Sparrow's escape in the previous film. Elizabeth is imprisoned, but Beckett offers her freedom if Will agrees to track down Jack and retrieve his magical compass. Shortly after, Governor Weatherby Swann attempts to escape the Royal Port with Elizabeth but is captured. Elizabeth negotiates with Beckett for her freedom to search for the compass. She stows away on a Scottish merchant ship, the Edinburgh Trader.
On the Black Pearl, Jack reunites with Bootstrap Bill Turner (Will's father), who reveals he serves aboard the Flying Dutchman, commanded by Davy Jones, the very man with whom Jack once made a deal to become the captain of the Black Pearl. Jack is forced to join the crew or face being dragged into Davy Jones' Locker (a deep-sea resting place for dead pirates). Jack's crew eventually finds him on an island ruled by cannibals, from which they escape. Tia Dalma, who had warned them about Jones, reveals that Jones’ heart is locked inside the Dead Man's Chest. On the Flying Dutchman, Will meets his father and learns that Jones holds the key to the chest. After a game of Dice Liar with Jones, Bootstrap helps Will escape with the key, but Jones sends the monstrous Kraken after him.
In Tortuga, Jack recruits new crew members, including Elizabeth and James Norrington—now a drunkard. A battle ensues between Jack, Will, and Norrington, each seeking the heart for their own reasons: Jack wants to control the Kraken, Will aims to save his father, and Norrington wants his life back. In the chaos, Jack steals Jones' heart and hides it in a jar, but Norrington secretly steals the heart and pretends to flee to mislead the Flying Dutchman’s crew. Jones attacks the Black Pearl with the Kraken, devouring most of the crew and sinking the ship. Jack orders the survivors to abandon ship, but Elizabeth chains him to the mast so the crew can escape the Kraken. Jack manages to break free, only to be swallowed by the Kraken. Jones realizes his heart is missing. Back at the Royal Port, Norrington delivers the heart to Beckett, allowing him to return to the navy and gain control over Davy Jones and the seas. The Black Pearl’s crew agrees to rescue Jack. Tia Dalma reveals the new captain who will lead them—Captain Hector Barbossa, brought back to life.
