1. Script for Chú Cuội Harvesting the Moon on the Full Moon Night
Part 1: The Entrance of Chị Hằng and Chú Cuội
- Chú Cuội: Dear children, every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, from the remote village corners to the bustling streets across the country, children eagerly carry lanterns and celebrate with mooncakes.
- Chị Hằng: In the same joyful spirit, today, the parents and grandparents of our class, in collaboration with the Moon Palace of Chị Hằng and Chú Cuội, are hosting the 'Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration' for all the good, studious, and beautiful children at the primary school. Are you all excited? Dear children, as President Hồ Chí Minh once said:
'Children are like buds on a tree,'
'Knowing how to eat, sleep, and study is what makes them good.'
So, any child in the audience who eats well, sleeps soundly, studies hard, and regularly receives praise from their parents and teachers, raise your hand to show Chị Hằng!
- Chú Cuội: Wow, so many of you are raising your hands, Chị Hằng! That means our little ones are really following Uncle Hồ's teachings, right? I also heard that at the kindergarten... the children are not only cute but also great at learning. Who can read the rhyme about 'Chú Cuội'? Chú Cuội has a big gift for the one who can read it out loud.
- Chú Cuội: Chị Hằng, do you see how well the children are reading?
- Chị Hằng: Yes, they are amazing! They know so many nursery rhymes and read them beautifully!
Part 2: Skit Performance:
Scene 1: On the Way to the Moon Palace:
Two children skip onto the stage hand in hand…
- Boy: (stopping abruptly): Wait, wait, wait! My pants... they're falling down! (While speaking, he lifts his pants up.)
- Girl: That's strange, why haven't the other kids come to join us in going to the Moon Palace for mooncakes with Chú Cuội and Chị Hằng?
- Boy: Hmm, let me try calling them.
(As the boy takes out his phone to call, the Witch and Pirate suddenly appear from the wings of the stage, laughing maniacally as they surround the two children.)
- Pirate: Ha ha ha! Finally, we have caught you! Hahaha…
- Witch: You were on your way to the Moon Palace to join Chú Cuội and Chị Hằng for the mooncake feast, right? Well, we are going to kidnap you to trade for Chị Hằng and the mooncakes! Ha ha ha ha… Give me your phone so I can call Chị Hằng!
(The Witch grabs the phone from the boy and calls Chị Hằng. She dials as she walks offstage. End of Scene 1.)
Scene 2: On the Moon: Interspersed with a performance: The children just finished performing (On the Moon, Chú Cuội walks out, feeling anxious.)
- Chú Cuội: Something’s not right, Chị Hằng was supposed to meet me here on the Moon to prepare for the children's mooncake feast! Why isn’t she here yet? The clock is ticking!
(Chú Cuội anxiously pulls out his phone to call Chị Hằng, when the two children rush in, looking terrified.)
- Boy: Chú Cuội! (gasping for breath) Chị... Chị... Hằng has been kidnapped by the Witch and the Pirate! (gasping)
- Girl: They took us and demanded Chị Hằng in exchange for mooncakes. Then they took her too, Chú Cuội! What should we do now? (The boy and girl cry, tugging at Chú Cuội's sleeve.)
- Chú Cuội: Don't worry, I’m here now. We will rescue Chị Hằng!
(Chú Cuội reassures the children when his phone rings. An evil voice sounds on the other end.)
- Pirate: Hahaha, is this Chú Cuội? (Chú Cuội: Yes) We’ve captured Chị Hằng and the mooncakes! Hahaha… You’re all too scared to do anything. If you’re brave enough, come and rescue her! I’ll let you hear Chị Hằng’s voice one last time! Hahaha...
- Chị Hằng (voice over the phone): Huhuhu... Chú Cuội, come save me! I’ve been captured by the evil Witch and Pirate. It’s scary here! Huhuhu... (The Pirate’s laughter echoes on the phone and the call ends.)
- Chú Cuội (yelling into the phone): Hello, Chị Hằng! Chị Hằng! (Only hear the phone beeping.)
(Chú Cuội acts out feeling sad and worried. Two friends enter.)
Friend 1: Chú Cuội, what’s wrong?
Friend 2: What happened, Chú Cuội?
Chú Cuội (suddenly snapping out of it): Thank goodness you’re here! We need to go rescue Chị Hằng and save the mooncake feast! The Pirate and the Witch have kidnapped her, let’s go and get her back!
(Everyone rushes off to rescue Chị Hằng.)
Scene 3: Rescuing Chị Hằng:
Interspersed with a performance and fashion show: The children just finished performing.
(At the Pirate and Witch's hideout, they are celebrating their victory.)
- Witch: Do you think Chú Cuội and the children will come to rescue Chị Hằng?
- Pirate: Ha! Those little kids don’t stand a chance! With a snap of my fingers, they’ll all fall into the sea! Hahaha... (He strokes his beard as he laughs.)
(Before he finishes, Chú Cuội, the two children, and their friends rush in.)
- Chú Cuội: You evil Pirate and Witch, you think you can ruin our Mid-Autumn feast? As long as I’m here, you won’t get away with it!
* Everyone shouts: Let Chị Hằng go! Let Chị Hằng go!
- Witch: Quiet! Are you trying to cause chaos here?
- Pirate: Do you even know where you are, trying to make trouble here???
- Chú Cuội: You villains, let Chị Hằng go so we can go back and enjoy the mooncake feast! (Everyone starts shouting: Let Chị Hằng go so we can go back to the Moon Palace!)
- Witch: Hmph! You’re not scared, huh? Fine, then we’ll have a contest. If you can pass our challenges, we’ll release Chị Hằng.
- Pirate: If not, all of you will be captured and will never get to enjoy the mooncake feast! (Both laugh menacingly.)
- Chú Cuội: Fine, we accept your challenge, but you better keep your word!
- Witch: Agreed! Let the games begin!
(The following games involve the audience, the children play along.)
Part 3 - Games:
Game 1:
- Witch: Challenge 1: Are there any children here who can sing two songs about the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Moon?
Interspersed with a performance: The children perform while Chú Cuội and friends cheer and mock the Witch and Pirate.
Game 2:
- Pirate: Hmph! You’re doing well, but now comes your second challenge! Hahaha… This one you won’t be able to pass! Hahaha...
Challenge 2: I’m craving sour food, so take a spoon and move 15 lemons into my basket. If you can do that, you win! Do you dare to try? Hahaha... (Prepare 3 plates with 15 lemons, 3 spoons, 3 plastic chairs, and 3 baskets for lemons.)
Chú Cuội and his friends: Cheer and invite 3 children to join the game (Prizes are given after the game.)
* After the game, Chú Cuội and his friends celebrate and mock the Witch and Pirate.
Victory, Chị Hằng is saved. Mid-Autumn music starts!
- Chị Hằng: To join in the joyful atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival, let’s all stand up and sing the song 'The Star Lantern.'
Chú Cuội, Chị Hằng, and their friends invite the children to join in the mooncake feast and form a circle. They hand out mooncakes and join the children in the feast.

2. Mid-Autumn Festival Script
Part 1: Introduction of the Program and Distinguished Guests
Dear esteemed guests and beloved children,
"Mid-Autumn Festival, lanterns shining bright,"
"Children carry lanterns through the streets,"
"Hearts filled with joy, lanterns in hand,"
"We dance and sing under the full moon's light.”
Every year, on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, children eagerly await the special day of the Mid-Autumn Festival. And surely, we adults cannot forget the memories of our childhood, with the glowing lanterns lighting up the village, the rhythmic beats of the lion and dragon dances, the sound of children’s songs and games, and a big feast filled with mooncakes, especially the traditional baked and sticky mooncakes. Today’s event is an opportunity to encourage the spirit of children studying at (School/Organization) ... to interact, meet, and enjoy fun and meaningful activities, bringing joy to all. This is the purpose of today’s artistic program.
Part 2: Introduction of Guests
Part 3: Artistic Program
Opening Act: Performance of the Lantern Dance
Drama:
– Girl 1: Hey, Bờm, do you know what today is? Why don’t you exchange your fan for the rich man?
– Bờm: What day is it? Why should I change my fan? This fan is big and beautiful, every time I wave it, it feels like the wind is cutting through the air, it’s so refreshing (walks and waves the fan at the girls, making them stagger).
– Girl 2: Bờm, you’re still the same! So silly! (Presses a finger on Bờm’s forehead, then walks away). Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, the day when the moon is round and brightest (makes a circle motion with her hands). Hey everyone, listen up!
– All in unison: Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
– Girl 2: Tonight, let’s go break the feast... (The whole group runs off stage, Bờm tries to follow but can’t keep up.)
– Bờm: Oh no... They left me behind to enjoy the feast. All I have is this fan to play with (grins while holding the fan)
"A big open fan (points upward)
A small hand fan (points downward)
Is no match for our mo fan!”
(Bờm walks around the stage, happily waving the fan)
– All in unison: “No fan is better than our mo fan…” (Cuội enters from the wings, walking with a cane and stroking his beard)
– Cuội: Oh dear, who is causing this strong wind? (Stumbles, looking around). Ah, I thought it was the witch using her fan, but it’s just Bờm! Hello Bờm, long time no see.
– Bờm: Oh… who are you? (Bites his nails, trying to remember).
– Cuội: It’s been a year, hasn’t it? You’ve grown so tall! (Pats Bờm on the back in a friendly way).
– Bờm: Ouch, that hurts... and honestly, I don’t remember who you are. (Scratches his head and ears).
– Cuội: Ah, you’ve forgotten! Well, let me tell you something. Many years ago, I was just a boy like you (gestures at Bờm). One day, while I was herding cows, I got so caught up in playing that I let the cows eat someone’s rice. When I got home, my uncle scolded me so badly (looks sad and wipes away a tear).
– Bờm: Yes, I understand. What happened next?
– Cuội: Well, I sat by the banyan tree and fell asleep, and guess what? The tree flew up to the sky!
– Bờm: Wow, I remember now! But I’m going to quiz the children. Let’s see if they know who you are... “Hey everyone, do you know who this is?”
(Audience responds and prizes are given)
– Bờm: See, I’m good at this, aren’t I? (The children and volunteers below shout “Good job!”)
– Cuội: Okay, you’re good. Now, can the children sing? Let’s hear a song from you!
Children’s dance and song performance.
– Cuội: Wow, that was amazing! I have so many friends down here. Up there, it’s just me. And the Moon Goddess is always busy.
The Moon Goddess suddenly appears, holding a feather duster and shooing them away.
– Hằng: Oh, so you dare gossip about me? But tonight is the Mid-Autumn Festival, so let’s come down to Earth and celebrate with the children.
– Cuội + Bờm: That’s great, let’s go!
– Hằng: We’ve arrived, now let’s play!
– Hằng, Cuội, Bờm: Hey everyone! Do you know what today is? The audience responds: Mid-Autumn Festival!
– Hằng: Do you know what foods or items are special during the Mid-Autumn Festival? Who can raise their hand and answer? (Hằng plays the role of MC. Cuội and Bờm interact with the children offstage, handing the mic to the kids).
Games:
- Cuội: Children, I have a secret! I’ll reveal it to you now. When I sneaked down here, I visited the Immortal Alchemist and stole many immortality pills and ginseng! Whoever eats them will live forever. Now, who wants to participate in the “Eat Fastest” contest? I have five plates of immortality pills, and I need five volunteers. Whoever finishes first will be crowned as the King of the Monkeys, and the others will be little monkeys (and each participant will receive a precious immortality pill from Cuội). Who’s ready?
