Mường Thanh Middle School originated from Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu Basic Education School. In 1993, the provincial offices moved to Dien Bien Phu City, resulting in a significant increase in the number of students. Faced with this situation, the Provincial People's Committee decided to divide Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu Primary School into Hanoi Elementary School - Dien Bien Phu and Mường Thanh Middle School according to Decision No. 584/QD-UB-TC dated November 21, 1994, by the Provincial People's Committee of Lai Chau Province (now Dien Bien Province).

In its early days, the educational activities of Mường Thanh Middle School faced many difficulties and shortages in terms of facilities and teaching staff. However, the school's infrastructure is now well-built and aesthetically pleasing. The teaching staff in the school is sufficient in number and meets the training standards. Teachers have trained many students to participate in excellent cultural subject competitions at all levels and to enter specialized high schools such as Le Quy Don High School, showing a remarkable improvement.
