1. Overview of the Credit-Based Education System
Credit-based education is a method in which students are awarded a degree after accumulating the necessary knowledge. Various forms of credit accumulation include: Classroom learning; Practical experience, Internships, and Self-study. Knowledge in the credit system is structured into Courses, with each course comprising approximately 2 to 3 credits. The training program includes two types of courses: Compulsory courses and Elective courses, where students select and register for suitable courses based on their abilities and circumstances. The university arranges schedules based on the needs of students for appropriate classes.
A credit is defined as 15 hours of theoretical study, 30 - 45 hours of practical work, experimentation, or discussion; 45 - 90 hours of internship at facilities; 45 - 60 hours of essays, major assignments, or projects, graduation theses. For theoretical or practical courses, to earn one credit, students must devote at least 30 hours to personal preparation. The school principal specifies the number of lessons, hours for each course to suit the characteristics of the school. For programs where the volume of each course is calculated in credit units, 1.5 credit units are converted to 1 credit. One lesson is counted as 50 minutes.

Despite its advantages, this form of education still faces noteworthy limitations:
Students need to maximize their time and avoid using it ineffectively, which can affect their academic outcomes.
Some drawbacks of the Credit-based Training Method:Advantages of Credit-based Training System:
The Credit-based Training Method originated in 1872 at Harvard University, USA, and later spread to other countries, initially in Western Europe from the 1960s and is now widespread globally. In Vietnam, this method has only been applied in recent years.
Students are awarded degrees upon accumulating the required number of credits as prescribed by the university.
Advantages of Credit-based Training SystemEssential Equipments for Students
With the credit-based system, students are encouraged to actively seek knowledge, explore new ideas, and engage in discussions during class. Professors play the role of summarizing discussions. Therefore, to understand the subject matter and address any queries, students need to proactively study course materials before classes.
