What is Butenafine?
Butenafine is an antifungal agent belonging to the Benzylamine class. It is typically formulated as a topical cream with a 1% concentration for local application.
Butenafine is a synthetic Benzylamine derivative, with a mechanism of action and structure similar to that of Allylamine. It inhibits the synthesis of Ergosterol and increases the concentration of Squalene, causing cell toxicity in fungi. The product demonstrates fungicidal activity in vitro against M.furfur and dermatophytes, but fungistatic activity against Candida albicans strains.
When applied topically, Butenafine maintains a fungicidal concentration on the skin for up to 72 hours. It also has anti-inflammatory properties when used locally.
