2. Sample Essay 3 - The Dien Bien Phu Campaign
The Dien Bien Phu Campaign marked the climax of our nation's strategic offensive during the Winter-Spring of 1953-1954.
The entire Dien Bien Phu Campaign unfolded over thirty-six days and nights, divided into three phases of attack. From March 13 to 17, 1954, we successfully neutralized the two most heavily fortified defense points, Him Lam and Doc Lap, opening up the northern and northeastern fronts. In the second phase, from March 30 to April 30, 1954, we gained control of high ground, central areas of Dien Bien Phu within our shooting range. The enemy forces found themselves in a defensive position, losing morale. In the third phase, from May 1 to 7, 1954, our forces launched a comprehensive attack on the Dien Bien Phu stronghold. On May 7, 1954, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign concluded in complete victory. Our military and people shattered the so-called “strongest fortress in Indochina” and the “invincible fortress” of French colonialists.
The triumph of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign holds immense significance for the Vietnamese nation. Firstly, this victory concluded the nine-year long resistance against the French, a period filled with hardships but also marked by the bravery of our military and people. Simultaneously, this historic victory became a shining milestone in the history of our nation and era, symbolizing heroism and contemporary strength. With this defeat, the French colonialists were compelled to sign the Geneva Accords (7/1954) to cease hostilities and restore peace in Indochina. It also marked the end of a century-long colonial rule, paving the way for a new phase of development for the revolutions in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. This reaffirmed the correct leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, ushering in a new revolutionary period to continue the struggle to resist the U.S. and save the country, completely liberate the South, and reunify the nation. The historic victory at Dien Bien Phu enhanced the pride of the Vietnamese people, instilled absolute confidence in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and rallied the entire Party and people to fight unitedly under the glorious banner of the Party for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
Thus, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign is an event of great significance for the Vietnamese people.

4. Sample Essay #5 - The Arrival Festival at Hùng Temple
'Whether one goes against the flow or moves forward
Remember our ancestors on the tenth day of the third lunar month'
Every year, the Vietnamese people turn their hearts to the beloved homeland of Phu Tho on the occasion of the lunar March 10th to commemorate the contributions of the Hung Kings in establishing the nation. This is also the time when the Hung Temple Festival takes place.
According to historical records, the Hung Temple Festival has been around for a long time. From the times of Dinh, Ly, Early Le, and Tran dynasties, people from all over the country gathered here to worship and express their gratitude to the eighteen generations of Hung Kings who had the merit of building and preserving the nation. This festival has been preserved until today and has become a unique feature in the national culture, making the 10th of March annually a national festival. In odd-numbered years, the festival is organized by the province of Phu Tho, and in even-numbered years, it is jointly organized by the Central Government in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province. Whether organized on a large or small scale, both the festival and the ceremony are conducted with great solemnity and spirituality. The religious rituals paying tribute to the Hung Kings were officially recognized by UNESCO as the 'Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity' in 2002, proving the enduring vitality and unique value of this festival. Many localities across the country, such as Da Nang, Hanoi, have organized this festival as a beautiful aspect to educate future generations not to forget their national roots and to strive to study and build the country to repay the merits of their forefathers.
The ceremony includes a procession and an offering ceremony. The procession is carried out in a dignified atmosphere with colorful flags, banners, and flowers. In the village, everyone is excited and dresses in traditional costumes to participate in the ceremony. Delegations from the central government, provinces, and cities gather at a location along with the village procession to the foot of Hung mountain. The delegation follows the procession, which has been meticulously prepared in advance. The procession route to the temple is accompanied by traditional music, and there are pre-formed dance teams that create the solemnity of a national ceremony. After arriving at the temple, the people offer their ceremonies to the upper sanctuary, and everything is carried out very carefully, detail by detail, and quickly. After that, the representative delegates from the Ministry of Culture read the dedication ceremony, and everyone listens attentively in a deeply emotional and respectful atmosphere. All are wholeheartedly offering their prayers, hoping that the ancestors will bless the homeland's descendants.
Next is the offering ceremony, where every child who comes to this land wishes to light incense at the temple, showing respect and using the fragrance of smoke to express the wishes of their hearts to the ancestors. Every inch of land, blade of grass, and tree root here is considered sacred. For those who are far away and cannot come or do not have the conditions to come here, on this day, they still take the time to go to the pagoda to light incense, remembering their origins. Everywhere is crowded, lively, and vibrant.
After the ceremony comes the festival part. If the ceremony brings solemnity, the festival brings joy and relaxation to everyone. At the festival, many traditional folk games take place, such as cockfighting, spinning tops, wrestling, or playing chess, attracting everyone to participate. Every team hopes for victory to bring honor to their hometown. Alongside that, many modern games are also integrated harmoniously to meet the tastes and interests of all ages. Especially, not to be missed in this festival is various forms of folk singing performances, Quan Ho singing, or theatrical performances that take place through talent competitions between villages and hamlets to promote cultural and artistic exchanges. The smooth and melodious verses in the Xoan - Gheo rhythm are highly attractive and bear the hallmark of the land of Phu Tho. In the central area of the festival, the Hung Vuong Museum displays ancient relics from the time of the ancient Hung Kings, providing an opportunity for visitors to explore, take photos, and commemorate. In addition, in the festival area, many souvenir items are displayed for sale for visitors to buy as souvenirs. Cultural and culinary services with traditional and modern dishes are also flexibly organized.
Today, as the country develops, the state not only takes care of material life but also strives to promote the high and beautiful spiritual values. Newspapers, television, and news agencies still play a great role in conveying these religious values to all compatriots across the country and people worldwide, allowing them to know and understand more about the beauty of traditional ethnic festivals in Vietnam.

6. Sample Essay #7 - Spring Fair at School
Another Tet is approaching. In these days, preparations for the upcoming new year are bustling everywhere. My schoolmates and I are organizing a traditional spring fair in the schoolyard.
The school has been preparing for this fair for two weeks. Teachers, especially homeroom teachers, along with parents and many students, after each class, get involved in various activities such as decorating the main stage, setting up booths, arranging necessary items, practicing cooking traditional dishes, and procuring traditional local products. This is an annual activity of the school, but this year is my first time participating, and I feel very excited about it.
On the morning of the 20th day of the last lunar month, almost all teachers, students, and many parents were present in the schoolyard. Everyone was earnestly involved in their tasks. At exactly 8 o'clock, the official opening ceremony began. After the declaration of the reasons and the introduction of the program hosts, the principal took the stage to deliver the opening speech. Following that were various performances to welcome the fair, such as fan dancing, bamboo pole dancing, folk singing, etc. The most impressive was the stage performance of traditional folk literary works, particularly the play 'Banh Chung, Banh Day,' which received much praise. The play helped me visualize more vividly the origin of the traditional Tet cakes of the Vietnamese people. At the same time, the booths officially opened to welcome buyers with a variety of items. There were stalls selling floating cakes, vegetarian cakes, square glutinous rice cakes, cylindrical glutinous rice cakes, cylindrical glutinous rice cakes, and rice cakes. There were also stalls selling handmade traditional hats, palm-leaf conical hats, bamboo toothpicks, and even stalls displaying calligraphy in both Chinese characters and Vietnamese alphabet... The items were diverse and beautiful, but the prices were very reasonable, suitable for the budget of most students. These were things that, on regular days, many people find it hard to buy. Many things I saw for the first time and had to ask the sellers about their names and uses.
Not only were there fixed stalls, but also there were street vendors like those in the countryside that I occasionally saw. Everyone participated, trying to visit all the booths or stopping at street vendors to buy something to eat or as a souvenir. The sound of vendors calling, bargaining, and the laughter echoed throughout the schoolyard.
Like that, the fair lasted until 6 in the evening before dispersing. Everyone seemed tired but very cheerful. This fair has left a very colorful impression on me. Through the fair, I learned about many items that our ancestors made and used. I also experienced a lively, cheerful atmosphere. It gave me a sense of the warm and peaceful atmosphere of the days preparing for the Lunar New Year. Surely, this will be a memorable memory in my student life.

The victory of 'Dien Bien Phu in the air' in 1972, an event that took place in Hanoi, profoundly impacted all people nationwide. 8. Sample Essay #8 - Opening Day
For students, the opening day holds a unique excitement. The opening day at THCS............ left me with beautiful impressions that will linger forever.
On this warm, sunny opening day, the atmosphere was vibrant. I had prepared everything the night before, filled with joy and anticipation. Before me stretched a new horizon: new friends, teachers, classrooms... all gleaming with novelty. In previous years, after the three-month summer break, we returned to the familiar school with its trees, stone benches, and memories of laughter. But this year, I stepped into a new school year. A fresh and auspicious start.
The first event was the parade, where each class marched past the stands while teachers highlighted the outstanding achievements of the past year. It was especially welcoming for us, the sixth-grade students entering the first year of secondary education. After the parade, the flag-raising ceremony took place with utmost solemnity. Next, the deputy principal made an announcement, introduced the speakers, and invited the vice principal to read the President's letter. Though I had heard similar letters during previous opening ceremonies, today was the first time I felt so deeply moved. The most touching moment was when the vice principal read the opening speech, initiating the competition to welcome the new school year and beating the ceremonial drum. The drum on the stage today was exquisite, glossy dark brown, adorned with beautiful patterns, especially on the drumhead. The drumstick was decorated with a red cloth around the tip. The sound of the drum resonated, and my soul felt uplifted. Accompanying the echoing drum was the warm voice of a teacher narrating the significance of the drumbeat from behind the scenes. The words were heroic, penetrating deep into our hearts, reminding the younger generation of the glorious past and urging us to strive for the future. I could clearly see the emotion in this moment, similar to what I felt. The drumbeat, with its resonating and deep sound, flew over the trees, through the winds, and echoed in the clouds of the September sky. I suddenly thought, perhaps the school opening drumbeat could represent the Vietnamese autumn well, or at least the autumn for me and my fellow students.
The last part of the ceremony, also the most anticipated by students, was the welcoming cultural program. The program included five performances of various genres: singing, dancing, rhythmic gymnastics, all extremely impressive. I watched the performances in awe, admiring the talents of my fellow students. All students, teachers, and guests kept their eyes fixed on the stage during these captivating acts. Many expressed their trust in the comprehensive education provided by our school for the students.
For me, this is the opening ceremony I will remember the most, as I stepped into a new chapter of life, more mature and with a deeper love for school and classmates.
