5. Travel Itinerary for Kim Boi
Hanoi – Kim Boi 2 Days
- Day 1: Hanoi – Luong Son – Kim Boi
- Depart from Hanoi, following National Road 6 to Luong Son intersection, then turn onto Bai Chao, Bai Say roads to reach Kim Boi. The route runs along beautiful mountains and streams.
- Spend the night in Kim Boi. Be sure to book a hotel in advance during peak seasons to avoid being turned away. In the evening, enjoy a hot spring bath and sample local dishes from Hoa Binh.
- Day 2: Kim Boi – Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Power Plant – Hanoi
- Start the day with a relaxing coffee and breakfast.
- Instead of retracing the same route, take a detour from Kim Boi to QL6 at Dốc Cun, then head towards Hoa Binh city. Stop at the foot of Dốc Cun and visit the Mường Culture Museum. Continue to the Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Power Plant before heading back to Hanoi.

- Day 1: Hanoi – Hoa Binh – Mai Chau (140 km)
- 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Depart from Hanoi.

If you're traveling by personal vehicle, such as a motorbike or car, be sure to pack all the necessary tools for vehicle repairs, just in case of any emergencies. Also, fill up your tank before you set off.

Kim Boi Hot Springs is a natural mineral spring located in Mo Da Village, Ha Bi Commune, Kim Boi District, Hoa Binh Province. It's approximately 70 km from Hanoi along National Highway 6 and about 30 km from Hoa Binh City. This makes it an ideal weekend getaway, perfect for a two-day, one-night stay.
The open-air mineral spring, rich in minerals, offers numerous health benefits, helping treat joint problems, relieve fatigue, and improve digestive health. Flowing underground before emerging in the tourist area, the spring is known by several names: Kim Boi Hot Spring, Mo Da Hot Spring, or even the Fairy Spring. As the spring water rises from deep underground, it maintains a temperature of 34°C to 36°C upon emerging.
8. Best Time to Visit Kim Boi
Located not far from Hanoi, Kim Boi is an ideal destination for a relaxing weekend getaway. The climate here is cool and refreshing year-round, with fresh, crisp air. Thanks to its hilly terrain, the weather in Kim Boi stays relatively mild, even during the hottest summer months. Therefore, you can visit Kim Boi at any time of the year.
However, it’s best to avoid the rainy season, particularly in July and August, when storms and landslides are common. If you're planning to visit Thung Nai as well, it’s ideal to go during the warmer months to take advantage of the cool, refreshing activities available on the hydroelectric lake.
9. How to Get to Kim Boi
By Private Vehicle
- Kim Boi is located about 80km from central Hanoi, making it easiest to reach by private vehicle. There are two main routes to the Kim Boi hot spring area, and you can take a loop route by going one way and returning another.
- For the outward journey, head from Hanoi to Luong Son Town, then take a left turn at Bai Lang and follow the road to Bai Chao to reach Kim Boi. On the way back, take the 12B road to QL6 near Dốc Cun, then head back to Hoa Binh City and Hanoi. Along the way, you can stop by the Mường Culture Museum or the Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant.
By Public Transport
- There are no direct buses from Hanoi to Kim Boi, but you can still get there using public transport.
- Take a bus from Hanoi to Hoa Binh City, and ask the driver to drop you near the Hoa Binh Provincial Hospital. From here, you can catch Bus No. 02 to Lac Thuy, which passes through the Kim Boi hot spring area.
