1. Scoob!
For the second time, Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc. make their big-screen return with an origin story, aimed at establishing the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe. The film introduces iconic characters such as Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Captain Caveman, Dee Dee Sykes, and Dick Dastardly. The first trailer for Scoob! promises an exciting, mysterious adventure with Scooby and Shaggy. While Will Forte impresses as Shaggy, it's Frank Welker's return to voice Scooby that raises hopes for a successful reboot.

2. Onward
For the first time since 2015, Pixar will release two animated films in the same year. The first of these is the fantasy adventure Onward, featuring the voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as two brothers on a race against time to resurrect their late father. The latest trailers reveal a more modern setting for the film, with an emphasis on humor. However, director Dan Scanlon, known for Monsters University, has promised an emotional journey inspired by his own personal experiences.

3. Raya and The Last Dragon
Celebrating its 59th anniversary, Walt Disney Animation will bring to life a film inspired by the East, following a warrior on a daring quest to find the last dragon in her world.
The current voice cast includes Cassie Steele (best known for voicing Tammy Gueterman in Rick & Morty) and Awkwafina (who had an outstanding 2019 with roles in The Farewell and Jumanji: The Next Level). Raya and The Last Dragon combines surreal animation with elements reminiscent of Mulan, while also introducing new world-building features that echo the style of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

4. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run
Marking its 20th anniversary, SpongeBob is set to release its third movie in theaters, this time in stunning 3D. In this new adventure, SpongeBob's loyal pet snail, Gary, is unexpectedly kidnapped by Poseidon, and SpongeBob, alongside his best friend Patrick, embarks on a daring rescue mission.
While the story draws inspiration from the episode 'Have You Seen This Snail?', recent teasers reveal unique moments, including a flashback to young SpongeBob at Camp Coral (which may set the stage for a potential spinoff) and an unforgettable cameo by Keanu Reeves as a wise sage.

5. How Do You Live?
Although he announced his retirement after The Wind Rises, legendary anime director Hayao Miyazaki has come out of retirement to create his twelfth feature film with Studio Ghibli. The film will center around a character’s encounter with a novel called How Do You Live?
While specific details of the film remain under wraps, producer Toshio Suzuki revealed that the project is meant as a gift from Miyazaki to his grandson.

6. Soul
Inspired by the emotional world of Pixar’s Inside Out, the studio brings us another animated feature exploring personal passions, titled Soul. Pete Docter, a two-time Oscar winner, returns to helm this project, describing it as a cosmic journey set around New York City.
With a strong emotional emphasis, this film promises to deepen the emotional experience more than previous Pixar movies. The most significant shift, however, is its groundbreaking portrayal of an African-American protagonist. With a compelling story and stunning animation, Soul is sure to be a captivating experience.

7. Wish Dragon
Wish Dragon is a collaborative project between the U.S. and China, produced by Sony Pictures Animation. Directed by Chris Appelhans, the story follows a young boy who meets a dragon capable of granting wishes.
The film features an all-Asian voice cast, including Jackie Chan, Constance Wu, John Cho, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Will Yun Lee. As DreamWorks has shown, co-productions with China often result in stunning visuals, making the adventure with mythical creatures even more captivating.

8. Willoughbys
Based on Lois Lowry’s children’s book, Willoughbys tells the story of four siblings abandoned by their parents, who must work together to change their misfit ways in order to survive in the modern world.
This Netflix animated film is part of a larger slate of projects the streaming service plans to release in 2020. The film boasts an impressive voice cast, including Ricky Gervais, Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews, Will Forte, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, and Alessia Cara.

9. Bob’s Burgers: The Movie
Bob’s Burgers is one of the most successful animated series, often compared to iconic classics like The Simpsons and Family Guy. This year, the Belcher family makes its big-screen debut with Bob’s Burgers: The Movie.
Creator Loren Bouchard has written the first feature-length adventure for the Belchers, involving Louise and her beloved Kuchi Kopi doll. The film is expected to release in 2020.
