6. Example 9: A Mother's Love
Perhaps the greatest happiness for a child is growing up to the lullaby of their mother:
"Hush now, hush
On a summer afternoon, swaying in the hammock
Mother sings to the child, oh, oh in the round noon sun
Hush now, hush..."
Each verse, unknowingly ingrained in my soul, has nourished me, becoming the milk that helped me grow each day. The source of this nourishment is a mother's love, her heart. A mother's love is sacred and immense, protecting me from the storms of life. The storms and weariness outside can only step aside in the face of a mother's affection.
The bond between mother and child is unique and irreplaceable. As Bersot once said, "In the universe, there are many wonders, but the most beautiful wonder is a mother's heart." This is the most extraordinary proof of the love and closeness between mother and child. A mother's heart is unparalleled, offering a love that knows no limits. The gratitude for a mother who nurtures a child is immeasurable, something that cannot be quantified.
Don't look for a mother's love in distant or grandiose things. It is evident in daily life, in every moment. It’s the hardship and pain a mother endures during pregnancy, giving birth to a healthy child; the sleepless nights by the child's bedside when they are ill; the tears a mother sheds with her child when they make mistakes...
People often say, "What goes around comes around," but with mothers, all sacrifices are made without expecting anything in return. The only thing a mother asks for is to see her child smile every day. How can we ever repay the love and sacrifices of a mother?
"I live my whole life,
But can never repay the songs my mother sang."
(Nguyễn Duy)
A mother’s love is a timeless value, cherished in every era and revered by every child.
Throughout history, countless mothers' hearts have moved us. Perhaps you still recall the old folk tale of the milk fruit tree. It tells the story of a child who ran away after being scolded by his mother. When he returned, his mother had passed away from missing him. The mother transformed into a milk fruit tree, with leaves that were green on one side and red on the other, like her tear-filled eyes waiting for her child. The fragrance of the milk fruit was as sweet as a mother's love. It shows how a mother is always ready to forgive and embrace her child, no matter their wrongs.
More than half a century ago, there were heroic Vietnamese mothers who lost all their biological children in war but still welcomed and cared for other soldiers as their own. They were willing to sacrifice their lives to ensure their "children"—the soldiers—escaped the enemy's pursuit.
Another example is Đậu Thị Huyền Trâm, a mother who displayed immense courage and resolve. Despite being in the final stages of cancer, she refused chemotherapy so her unborn child could live longer.
These are clear examples of the power of a mother's love: "A mother's love for her child is unlike anything else in the world. It knows no rules or pity. It challenges everything and obliterates anything that stands in its way." (Agatha Christie)
A mother’s love shapes a child’s path, guiding and nurturing them through life’s challenges. It is the place a child returns to after every fall, where a mother’s loving hands are always ready to embrace them, leaving behind the dust and hardships of the world. How long will it take for a child to fully comprehend this sacrifice?
"A mother's heart is like a full bowl of water,
When you grow up, how can you repay this love?"
A mother's kindness is a cure for all ailments, dissolving all sorrow in her child. How unfortunate for anyone who never has the chance to live in such love.
Yet, there are still "ungrateful children" who burden their parents' hearts, neglecting their duty to care for them in old age. Who, after all, gave you the silver hair and wrinkles on your face? But some mothers, too, do not cherish the sacred role bestowed upon them by nature, abandoning or even abusing their children:
"Mother nurtures her child across seas and mountains,
But the child repays her with time and care."
Even worse are those who exploit motherhood for personal gain, advertising products and services that prey on a mother's desire to provide for her child, stealing money in the process. These people will never experience true love in life. As children in the modern world, we must recognize our responsibility towards this precious bond. Let us work hard to repay our parents' love—by helping at home, striving in our studies, and showing kindness to others.
A child's life is a diary of their mother, where she shares all her joys, sorrows, and hopes. A mother's love is an endless river, never running dry. So, if you're fortunate enough to live in this love, cherish every single day.

7. Example 1: From Literature to Reality
In our lives, none of us can exist without love. Love is the heartbeat that resonates in every human soul, as the old saying goes: “The coldest place is not the Arctic, but a place devoid of love.” This is because love allows us to understand the true importance of caring for one another.
Today, we encounter examples of love everywhere, from literature to real life. In Vietnamese literature, one clear example of love can be found in the story of “Chí Phèo” by Nam Cao. Through the love of Thị Nở, Chí Phèo, a notorious troublemaker, finds his true self again and recovers a long-lost dream. It is through love that he experiences happiness, even if it’s just a small spark.
In my own life, I often find love most strongly within my family. This is the love I have for my grandparents and parents, and the love I receive from them in return. For example, my grandparents are always happy when their children and grandchildren visit and care for them. That's why I make an effort to visit them, just to see the joy on their faces. That alone is happiness.
Similarly, simply asking your parents how their day went can brighten their spirits. A small act of kindness can erase the exhaustion of a long day. Showing love to those around us to make them happy is not difficult at all. The more we show love, the more happiness we will receive in return.
However, not all love is wise or correct. Sometimes, love can bring pain rather than happiness. For instance, some mothers, blinded by their love for their children, fail to see their children’s faults. Or there are wealthy individuals who ignore the suffering of the poor or the elderly living alone. Unlike the mothers in the previous example, these individuals are selfish and indifferent to others.
Therefore, in order to ensure the happiness of those around us, love should be expressed in the right way and in moderation. Too much love can lead to harm, and a lack of love can result in societal condemnation. We must strive to understand how to express love appropriately and remember that “love is the happiness of humanity.”

8. Example 2: A Father’s Unconditional Love for His Child
Love is one of the noblest qualities, not only of individuals but of humanity as a whole. For the younger generation, those stepping into the threshold of life, cultivating wisdom is essential, but they must never forget one of the most fundamental values of being human: the ability to appreciate the power of love.
Love is an emotional expression that comes from the depths of the soul, demonstrating compassion, empathy, and understanding for others. If one cannot feel for the misfortunes of others, if one does not appreciate those with noble qualities, or fail to train and refine one’s own character, that person’s heart is “impaired,” or in other words, emotionally numb.
Throughout history, the bond between mother and child, and between father and child, has always been founded on love, and it is one of the most sacred human connections. Because of this, these relationships have been immortalized in literature and have become some of the most humanitarian poems and stories. The poem “Letter to My Mother” by Russian poet Esenin has touched countless hearts.
The story of Chử Đồng Tử from Vietnamese folklore reminds us of the deep love of Chử Cù Văn, a father whose devotion to his child is unforgettable. And there are many other stories that illuminate the beauty of human love and compassion. Each summer, students wearing the blue shirts of hope and belief travel across the country to help those in need, embodying the values of love and living selflessly for others.
One such story is that of Nguyễn Hữu Ân, who shared his “Time Cake” with hospital patients—a beautiful example of how the youth should act. Despite these acts of kindness, there are still some young people who live indifferently, coldly, and with emotional detachment from others. This selfish way of living is something that should be condemned, as it goes against the traditional values of love and compassion passed down by our ancestors.
In today’s more civilized society, the value of love must be emphasized even more. This is something that the younger generation must realize and embrace as part of their responsibility in life. Youth carry the heaviest responsibilities to themselves, their families, and society. Thus, in the vast world of knowledge, one must understand that love is the pinnacle of human civilization. Let us live in a spirit of sharing, empathy, and community, to develop our character and become citizens who contribute positively to society.

9. Example 3: An Act of Great Virtue
Love is one of the most profound emotional values in human nature, manifested in the act of caring, sharing, and helping others overcome life’s difficulties and struggles. In essence, love reflects a selfless lifestyle, compassion, understanding, and the willingness to 'live for others,' ready to sacrifice personal benefits for the sake of supporting others through their hardships. It is these noble acts that help lead people to true happiness.
Why is love considered one of the key sources that bring people closer to happiness? Because when we love, we open our hearts to listen, to understand the struggles of others, which then inspires noble actions.
Dr. Nguyễn Duy Thăng, with his dedication as a doctor and deep empathy for cancer patients, has spent countless hours researching stem cell transplant methods. He has pioneered a new therapeutic path to help them find the strength to overcome both physical and emotional pain.
His contribution has brought warmth and hope to those battling the ruthless cancer disease, through his kindness and profound compassion. The smiles of his patients and their release from the hospital became his greatest joy. This is a prime example that demonstrates: “Love is the happiness of humankind.”
Love not only helps others overcome challenges but also brings happiness to those who give it, because, as poet Tố Hữu said, “To live is to give, not just to take.” Because of this, many individuals have devoted themselves to help the less fortunate, showing incredible acts of kindness. For instance, architect Phạm Đình Quý volunteered to build 105 schools for children in remote areas, epitomizing a lifestyle of living for others.
Moreover, love helps people distance themselves from selfishness and indifference—a growing issue in society. The rapid pace of modern life, with its unrelenting time pressures, has made people lose touch with compassion, understanding, and empathy for the familiar and close relationships around them. It is only through love that we can combat the rise of emotional detachment and individualism.
Current realities show that many people today live in indifference, focusing solely on their own interests. Society still reels from shocking events, such as parents brutally beating their children, or a restaurant owner throwing boiling water on a homeless man to avoid him harming her business. These inhumane actions serve as alarming wake-up calls about the value of human compassion and the importance of relationships.
To make love a true source of happiness, each of us must embody it through concrete actions: listening, caring, sharing, and supporting those around us. Let us amplify the warmth of love in society by actively participating in charity events, donations, and acts of kindness like sharing food and clothing.
In conclusion, to reach happiness, we must show care, share, and support each other with the power of love, for “Life only has meaning when it is nourished by the waters of love. Without love, the world turns into hell” (Việt Quang - 'Return to Heaven').
