Trang An Historic Site Halts Visitor Reception, Ends Exploitative Tourism Practices
During the recent Tet holiday, thousands of tourists enthusiastically shared photos from the picturesque mountain range within Trang An Ancient Area, featuring a winding staircase up the beautiful mountain. However, this area was constructed without proper authorization from the relevant state authorities. Therefore, on March 6th, the leadership of the Ninh Binh Province Department of Tourism announced the directive for Trang An Tourism Joint Stock Company to cease business operations and stop receiving tourists at Trang An Ancient Area.

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Phuc, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the complex of scenic Trang An has been classified by the Prime Minister as a specially national-level historical site and recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural and natural heritage site.
“Unfortunately, serious violations occurred since mid-2017 when Trang An Tourism Company, led by Mr. Nguyen Van Son, constructed a facility with a gate and a road to Huyen Vu Mountain (Cai Ha Mountain) without authorization, measuring over 1km in length and having more than 2,000 steps. We urgently request the Ninh Binh Department of Tourism to report to the province, coordinate with relevant units, and take measures to dismantle this entire unauthorized structure, restoring the original state of the site,” said Mr. Phuc.
