As autumn draws near, the heart fills with anticipation, longing to return to Dong Nghe, to stretch out on the grass, embracing the rustic scent, feeling the grass tickle the back, inhaling the aroma of wild herbs, and indulging in forest delights like bamboo shoots, wild berries, and wild vegetables...
Experience the lush greenery of Dong Nghe while exploring Danang

Countless times, upon returning to Dong Nghe (Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Vang district, Danang), capturing similar snapshots, I've whispered to myself 'no more.'
Yet that feeling of returning to my homeland, standing amidst the vast lake, waiting for the sun to descend in the fleeting moment before the day's end, or admiring the houses hidden behind the distant mountains, emitting wisps of smoke, stirs the soul.
Located approximately 25km west of Danang's city center, Dong Nghe is an ideal destination for eco-friendly outdoor activities. The irrigation project completed in 1995 serves to irrigate the surrounding areas.
According to the accounts of the elders, the lake seems never to dry up as its primary water source is mainly from the streams flowing deep within the forest.
1. Returning to Dong Nghe during the transition from summer to autumn brings a strangely peaceful atmosphere. The leisurely pace of buffalo heading towards the end of the golden-hued fields, the innocent laughter of children playing along the winding village paths...
Unlike many who visit Dong Nghe to escape the scorching summer sun, I cherish the moments of transition in late August and early September. For during this time, the lush green carpets along the towering embankments seem smoother than ever.
Perhaps the cool autumn breeze, along with the gentle rain, is enough to make the grass appear even greener. It's truly fascinating to lie down on the grass, savoring the rustic scent, feeling the damp earth, and all exhaustion seems to vanish.
The view from atop the high dam is truly impressive; the lake in autumn resembles a shimmering watercolor painting under the soft sunlight. And it's delightful to dip your feet into the chilly water, listening to the gentle waves lapping against the shore...

2. With a water surface area of about 2.4km², boating to explore the lake's depths or heading upstream to visit the crystal-clear streams, livestock farms, poultry farms... always brings about fascinating experiences.
Stepping into the area surrounding the lake immediately refreshes, with the deep green hues of the surrounding forest casting a soothing ambiance. And nothing beats camping and having a picnic with friends here.
The entire mountainous forest seems to come alive with laughter blending harmoniously with the rustling of the wind and the chirping of birds. Sometimes, one can even enjoy forest delicacies like bamboo shoots, wild berries, and wild vegetables...
Though unspoken, deep down, there's a realization that once you're here, you must wait, wait for the sunset to gradually descend upon the lake, offering the most serene moments. It's then that a few boats quietly appear on the lake, anglers leisurely casting their lines, while some children happily search for crabs and snails by the shore...

3. Each of us has many places to go, but only one place to return to. For me, Dong Nghe is always that place to return to, even when I'm far away. There, somehow, the fragments of memories from days of tending buffalo, cutting grass... along with the images of my parents toiling in the fields, along the levee, all rush back.
Just that thought alone, every autumn, stirs up a strange excitement, urging my feet to set off once again towards Dong Nghe.
