To copy photos from iDevice to a Windows 8 computer, you need a connecting cable to link your Apple device to the computer. Typically, the cable is included when you purchase your device. Alternatively, you can purchase one from a store, which serves the dual purpose of charging and data transfer.
Guide to Copying Photos from iDevice to Windows 8 Computer
Scenario 1: When connecting your iDevice to the computer, the device is recognized, and a notification appears (the iDevice referred to in this guide is an iPhone 4s)
Step 1: Plug in the cable to establish a connection and transfer data between the iDevice and the computer. You'll notice a notification as depicted below
Here, you'll have 3 options:
- Import photos and videos: Copy photos and videos
- Open device to view files: View files on the device
- Take no action: Do nothing
Step 2: To copy photos from your device, select Import photos and videos. Windows 8 scans the device and searches for video and image files.
Step 3: After the search, a list summarizing all photos and videos is displayed. Choose the photos you wish to transfer to your computer, then select Import.
The copying process is successful. A list of photos has been copied to your computer. By default, they are copied to the Library -->Pictures folder. Alternatively, you can click Open folder to access the folder containing these photos.
Scenario 2: When connecting your iDevice to the computer, no notification is received indicating the detection of the iDevice
Step 1: Access the Photos app from the Start screen
Step 2: Once in the app, right-click and select Import
Step 3: Select the Import button to view the iDevices connected to your computer. Choose the device from which you want to copy photos, in this case, the iPhone 4s
Windows 8 scans the device and searches for video and image files. Select the photos you want to copy and press Import
