An aquaculture pond for snakehead fish on Con Son Island (Can Tho City) has been repurposed as an information center for the fishing industry, featuring various 3D models for tourists to explore and learn.
Revamping a fish pond for a 3D model tourist spot in Can Tho
The fish pond owned by Mr. Ly Van Bon on Con Son Island, Bui Huu Nghia Ward, Binh Thuy District (Can Tho City). The idea of creating a fishing industry information center was carried out by a group of students including Truong Quang Huy, Do Phu Minh, both in 11th grade at the British Vietnamese International School Hanoi (BVIS Hanoi); Tran Viet Khoi, from the Australian International School Ho Chi Minh City, and Mr. Ly Van Bon's family collaborated on this initiative.
Con Son Island covers an area of over 70 hectares, situated in the Hau River, approximately 8 km from the center of Can Tho City. It is one of the famous ecological tourist spots in Can Tho, mainly focusing on community tourism, attracting a considerable number of visitors.

In the information center, the student group and the fish pond owner created 3D models of 15 freshwater fish species in the Mekong River, such as snakehead fish, catfish, tilapia, walking catfish, climbing perch, and featherback fish, with the assistance of some lecturers from Can Tho University and design students from Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts.
The project's funding was mobilized by selling a special type of fish raised in the Bay Bon fish farms to the markets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. During the fundraising period, the team successfully sold nearly 400 kg of fillet and grouper fish to support the project. In addition to fish sales, the team spent 100 hours teaching Math and Vietnamese to children in international schools and English to students in Vietnamese schools.

In addition to the 3D models of 15 fish species, various information boards about the fish in both Vietnamese and English were displayed. Traditional fishing tools from the Mekong Delta, such as nets and traps, were also showcased. The exhibition room attracted a considerable number of locals and tourists immediately after its opening.
Establishing the information center aims to help locals and tourists gain a deeper understanding of the distinctive fish in the Mekong Delta. This, in turn, enhances awareness of responsible and sustainable fish exploitation, striving to maintain ecological balance.
