Overview of Cai Chien Island
Perhaps Quang Ninh is nature's most generous region, offering numerous stunningly beautiful islands with raw, intriguing landscapes. One of the most noteworthy names today is Cai Chien Island.
Cai Chien Island: A Beautiful Untouched Island in Quang Ninh Province
Cai Chien Island is the sole island commune in Hai Ha district, Quang Ninh province. This place is evaluated to have great potential for tourism development due to its beautiful scenery, long stretches of white sandy beaches, tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. However, up to now, Cai Chien Island has yet to be completed as a tourist destination and is still under construction. The island only got electricity in September 2015.
Cai Chien Island is home to just over 120 households, with around 550 residents. While the island spans about 270 km², only about 108 hectares are suitable for farming. Generally, Cai Chien Island has yet to develop economically, so if you're accustomed to luxury, be prepared to rough it out a bit here. Despite its scarcity, Cai Chien Island boasts raw natural landscapes, enough to captivate any traveler.
Transportation Options to Cai Chien Island
Cai Chien Island is not far from the mainland, but if you take the ferry, it'll take about an hour. Since July 2015, when the ferry route from Cai Chien Commune to Genh Vo Pier (Quang Dien Commune, Hai Ha District) became operational, getting to the island has become much easier.
Aside from ferries, you can also take a high-speed boat, which only takes about 15-20 minutes. However, it can be quite inconvenient due to the crowded conditions, making it difficult to rent a boat. You can also bring your motorcycle to the island for convenience, as motorcycle or electric vehicle rental services are not yet developed in Cai Chien.
Where to Go for Tourism on Cai Chien Island?
Since there are no accommodations on Cai Chien Island, if you plan to stay overnight, you'll need to prepare a tent.
Many wonder if the rustic Cai Chien Island offers any accommodations or hotels. Unfortunately, even homestay services are rudimentary and scarce, let alone hotels or guesthouses.
As a result, most visitors opt for day trips, or if staying overnight, pitch tents on the beach for a camping experience. Nevertheless, indulging in a beachside picnic is an enjoyable activity not to be missed.
What to Do on Cai Chien Island?
Cai Chien Island isn't so large that you'd need a whole day to explore, but spending the day here promises endless fascination. Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the sea. If interested, ask the beachside café owner to arrange activities like shellfish hunting, exploring the rocky cliffs, or fishing at the pier, where you'll encounter unique fish species rarely seen on the mainland.
If you're up for a beach swim, head to Dragon's Head Beach. Most of Cai Chien's beaches remain untouched by human intervention, maintaining their pristine allure. Dragon's Head Beach boasts a vast expanse of sandy shores stretching 2 kilometers, crystal-clear blue waters, and a backdrop of straight-standing casuarina trees. Here, the soothing sound of waves accompanies the melodious chirping of birds, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere.
Apart from enjoying sunrise views and refreshing swims, Cai Chien also offers an ecosystem rich in diverse flora and fauna, a stark contrast to the urban scenery you'd find in a zoo.
Moreover, from Dragon's Head Beach, you can continue your journey by boat to Thoi Xanh Island. This island is also remarkably beautiful and pristine, adorned with numerous stunning sandy beaches. From there, you can catch glimpses of Co To Island, Hon Trui Island, Vinh Thuc Island (Mong Cai), and Mount Sau (Van Don). Given its strategic location, this area holds immense significance in maritime security and defense.
