Lost in capturing the breathtaking scenery beneath the dry stream, a group of tourists is suddenly alarmed and hastily rushes to safety as a torrent of water cascades down. In less than 20 seconds, the once dry stream transforms into a ferocious flood, sweeping away 5 individuals who hesitated into a deep abyss.
A recent nearly 4-minute video uploaded on YouTube has garnered the attention of tens of thousands. According to Gaurav Patida, witness and videographer, the incident occurred in the Patalpani area, a popular outdoor destination near the city of Manawar, Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, India.
The incident took place while a group of about 50 tourists was engrossed in admiring the spectacular mountain scenery beneath the dry stream. Upon hearing the roaring water, some quickly called for everyone to rush to the shore.
In less than 20 seconds, what was once a dry stream transforms into a violent flood, rushing down. 5 individuals in the group hesitated and waited for each other, getting trapped in the process.
The floodwater becomes increasingly fierce and turbulent. Unfortunately, a man in a green shirt slips, pulling down all 5 people, who are then swept away by the raging flood into a deep gorge.
According to Gaurav Patida, before they arrived in this area, some locals had warned about the perilous stream, especially during the rainy season. However, his team ignored the warnings, continued their journey, and a tragic accident ensued.
Only 2 out of the 5 unfortunate victims survived but sustained severe injuries, requiring emergency treatment at the hospital.
After watching the horrifying clip, some believe it serves as a lesson for travel enthusiasts in general and adventure seekers in particular.
Thành Nam advises, “When traveling in hilly areas, near rivers and streams, as soon as you hear the distant roar of water, run to the shore because it might be a flash flood from upstream. Flash floods often occur rapidly and forcefully”.
Agreeing with Nam, Uy Phong shares, “This video is a lesson for all of us. Be cautious, never take safety for granted. Solidarity is good, but it can be dangerous for others. If they didn't hesitate and waited for each other, these 5 people surely wouldn't have faced such a horrific accident”.
Sao Mai raises the question, “Why didn't those on the shore use a rope or strip of clothing to create a long line, throwing it to the 5 people to pull them ashore?” Most people agree that, in the chaos of a sudden accident with the rushing water, throwing a rope in isn't feasible.
