If you're pondering where to travel during the September 2nd holiday, a trip to Moc Chau to experience Independence Day with the H'Mong people would be an incredibly enticing destination.
Traveling during the September 2nd holiday: Heading to Moc Chau for the love market and Independence Day
For the H'Mong people on the Moc Chau plateau (Son La), there are two most significant festivals in a year, which are the traditional Tet and the September 2nd Independence Day.
According to the elders in Moc Chau, the Independence Day of the H'Mong people originated in the late 1950s to express gratitude to the Party, Uncle Ho, and the Government for bringing independence and freedom to the people nationwide, particularly the H'Mong people.
During this occasion, all H'Mong people, regardless of age, gender, wealth, or status, eagerly gather in the district center to celebrate Independence Day.
Preparing for the festival, H'Mong people have to make arrangements days in advance, selecting the most splendid and vibrant attire for themselves.

Festival activities usually extend from August 31st to September 2nd, but the liveliest atmosphere is on September 1st. Particularly, the Moc Chau love market is organized on the 1st day of the lunar calendar every year, eagerly anticipated by locals. They come here not for buying and selling, but for rendezvous, exchanging affection, displaying gestures of love, and enjoying themselves after days of hard labor.
During several days of the market, people meet, socialize, converse, form bonds, share heartfelt conversations over drinks... Despite not being able to erase all the worries and shortcomings of daily life, it serves as motivation for them to persevere. And somehow, the Moc Chau love market has evolved into a distinctive cultural feature that cannot be overlooked by tourists.
In recent years, Independence Day has also provided an opportunity for both domestic and international tourists to come to Moc Chau, relishing the fresh and cool air, and immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere here.
To enhance the vibrancy of Independence Day, Moc Chau district has organized numerous activities aimed at promoting tourism, attracting visitors from afar. These include collaborating with travel agencies to arrange tours to visit the Bac Ho Mausoleum complex, paying respects to officials, soldiers, and residents in Nong Truong Moc Chau town; visiting the Tây Tiến Soldier Monument, Moc Ly Station, Bat Cave, Dai Yem Waterfall...
Tourists visiting here not only witness the beauty of the ethnic attire but also participate in and explore many unique cultural activities. Additionally, various folk games are organized, attracting the participation of many locals, such as the rice cake pounding competition, cooking rice competition, shuttlecock kicking, pumpkin smashing, stick pushing, tu lu fighting, pao throwing, dragon nurturing egg game...

The remarkable highlight of this year's Independence Day is the spectacular artistic program on the night of September 1st featuring a dazzling fireworks display to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Furthermore, special programs within the framework of the 2015 Moc Chau Cultural Festival such as the Logo Design Contest for Moc Chau, Moc Chau tourism gifts, old and new photos of Moc Chau, and participation in the Grand Circle Dance with the theme 'Impressions of Moc Chau'... promise to be unforgettable experiences for everyone.
Moc Chau is located in Son La province, 180 km from Hanoi, on National Highway 6 towards Son La and Dien Bien. It takes about 4-5 hours by motorbike to get there depending on your speed, but you should drive at a moderate speed because the mountainous roads are very dangerous.
You can go on a Moc Chau adventure by motorbike or car. Usually, people prefer motorbikes (excluding those with private cars) because the roads are not too far. Riding a motorbike allows you to comfortably admire and capture the beautiful scenery along the way.
