Actor Trì Trọng Thụy recreates the portrayal of Đường Tăng from 40 years ago in the movie 'Great Dream of Journey to the West: Ngũ Hành Mountain', starting from 23/9.
At the age of 70, Trì Trọng Thụy returns to the silver screen with a supporting role in the film Great Dream of Journey to the West: Ngũ Hành Mountain. The depiction of Đường Tam Tạng by the male actor remains unchanged compared to the classic work filmed in 1982 by director Dương Khiết.
According to Sohu, Trì Trọng Thụy only appears in the final minutes of the film but leaves viewers curious. In this segment, he wears a cassock, rides a white horse, and removes the leaf with the six golden characters 'Um Ma Ni Bat Me Hong' to rescue Mỹ hầu vương banished for 500 years under the Ngũ Hành mountains.

Moreover, many audiences feel deceived because Trì Trọng Thụy only plays a guest role, while the producers place the 70-year-old star prominently in the center of the poster, overshadowing the main cast. Some criticize the male actor for not maintaining the iconic character image when accepting a role in a lackluster film.
In the 1986 version of Journey to the West, there were three actors who portrayed the role of Đường Tam Tạng. Trì Trọng Thụy was the final choice of director Dương Khiết after Uông Việt and Từ Thiếu Hoa withdrew. According to Sina, among the three actors back then, only Trì Trọng Thụy led a luxurious lifestyle.

Trì Trọng Thụy gained fame with Journey to the West 1986, starring in approximately 10 film and television projects but failing to make a significant impact. After marrying the wealthiest female tycoon in China - Ms. Trần Lệ Hoa, he nearly withdrew from the entertainment industry, devoting himself to assisting his wife's business endeavors. Their marriage was subject to much gossip and speculation. Some claimed Trì Trọng Thụy was driven by fame and fortune, thus accepting a spouse 11 years his senior.
A month ago, Sina reported that Ms. Trần Lệ Hoa enlisted lawyers to draft a will dividing a fortune of $5.6 billion, including cash, stocks, real estate, and various antiques, gemstones... among her husband and children.
Trì Trọng Thụy inherited a portion of the fortune amounting to $1.4 billion (over 32,000 billion Vietnamese dong), including a valuable rosewood museum.
