Word versions from 2010 onwards support the Remove Background feature - removing the background of inserted images in Word. This tool is integrated into the Word application and is quite simple to use. Simply insert the image you want to remove the background from, then use the Remove Background feature in Word. The result is that the background will be removed from the image, and you can use this image in Word or paste it into other areas if desired.
Trick to Separate Background from Image in Word
Step 2: Next, click on the Picture Format tab -> then select Remove Background.
Step 3: Word will immediately auto-detect the subject and background of the image and display them in pink as shown below. Word may automatically miss or include parts of the background or subject in the image -> and you can adjust them accordingly to your preference.
You can drag the frame to change the background or subject area you want to remove.
If you want to select the background or subject area more precisely -> you can use the tools above, by: Clicking on Mark Areas to keep to select the area you want to keep -> Then, draw a line on the background or subject area you want to keep.
To delete a region, simply click on Mark Areas to Remove -> then use the mouse to draw a straight line over the desired area to be deleted.
You will notice that the marked addition areas are the regions to be retained, while the marked subtraction areas are the ones to be removed.
After editing the areas you wish to keep and those you want to remove, proceed by selecting Keep Changes. Alternatively, click on any empty area around the image, and Word will automatically separate the background from the image.
The result of background removal will be displayed as shown in the image below.
Step 4: To capture this image on Word, right-click on the image -> select Save as Picture. In the Save as type section, choose the PNG file format to save the image with a transparent background.
However, if you save it as JPG or other formats -> the background of this image will be white. Below is an example of us changing the Word background to white, you will see the transparent image background after the background is removed.
So you have successfully removed the background image inserted in Word, and after you remove the background image on Word like this, you can insert a different background for the image or merge images as you wish.
However, removing the background image compared to specialized applications like Photoshop is not as accurate, and sometimes it is not standardized, users still have to edit it a lot. If you know how to use Photoshop well, you should use this application to remove the background in the image more accurately. However, if the requirements are not too high, especially if you want to do it quickly, using Word to remove the background from the image is also a suitable solution.
