On iOS, Apple provides the Portrait Orientation Lock (POL) button in the Control Center, which is enabled by default. However, some apps perform better when this feature is turned off.For instance, viewing photos in the Photos app or watching fullscreen videos on YouTube can be more convenient when the screen rotation lock is disabled. This guide will explain how to automatically disable POL when opening a specific app and re-enable it upon exiting the app.How to automatically disable screen rotation lock for a specific app:
- Open Shortcuts app, go to the Automation tab
- Tap the + icon at the top right and select Create Personal Automation
- Choose “App” from the next page

- Check both options “Is Opened” and “Is Closed” then tap Choose to select the app. For example, I choose Photos, then tap Done > Next
