Fixing the Error: Unable to Upload Files to Google Drive
1. Open an incognito window
The first solution to address Google Drive issues, including upload problems, is to open an incognito window. An incognito window operates in isolation, avoiding the use of stored cookies that may impact the browser. Simply open an incognito window, log into Google Drive, and then attempt to upload the files again to see if the error persists.
To open an incognito window, use the key combination Ctrl + Shift + N or Ctrl + Shift + P.
2. Clear browser data
Browsers store cookies, cache, and other data to enhance your web browsing experience. However, sometimes this data can cause issues for the browser, such as being unable to upload files.
To address this issue, try clearing your browser data. If you're using a different web browser, check how to clear browser data for that specific browser. In the following guide, Mytour instructs you on clearing browser data in the Chrome browser.
Step 1: On the main Chrome menu, click History, or alternatively, use the key combination Ctrl + H. This will open the Web browsing history.
Step 2: In the History window, select the logs section to proceed with clearing history and browser cookies.
Step 3: Next, choose Clear Browsing Data.
Step 4: Here, a new window appears. Select all 3 options as shown, then choose Clear Data to complete.
3. Use a different browser
If applying the above solutions doesn't resolve the issue, try switching to a different browser, such as Opera, Chrome, or Firefox, and see if the error persists.
Additionally, the error may occur because the browser you're using doesn't support Google Drive. However, this reason may not apply to popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Cốc Cốc, and Microsoft Edge.
If you're using one of the browsers mentioned above and encountering the error of being unable to upload files to Google Drive, try updating your browser to the latest version or switch to a different browser to see if the issue is resolved.
4. Ensure images are activated
For some reason, Google Drive may cease to function if images are disabled in the browser. You can use it to edit and view data but won't be able to upload or download images. Therefore, ensure images are activated in the browser and check if the error of unable to upload files persists.
5. Check the status of Google services
While rare, occasional disruptions in Google Drive functionality may occur. Try checking the status of all Google services listed on the G Suite Status Dashboard. Any queries will be addressed there.
6. The issue may be due to network problems
The culprit could be a network connection issue, especially if the file you're uploading gets interrupted. Rebooting the router is a solution to resolve this error. If unsuccessful, try changing your IP address and disabling the Firewall. Using a VPN may also impact the upload process, so ensure the VPN is turned off.
If it's confirmed that the culprit is a network connection, resetting the router may resolve this issue. Press and hold the Reset button on the router for about 5 to 10 seconds to reset it.
7. The issue may be with the file you're uploading
To check if the error is caused by the file you're uploading, try uploading 3 different files and see if they upload successfully. If any of these files upload without issues, it's likely the specific file causing the error. Try renaming and changing the file format, ensuring the file name doesn't contain characters like ? <> \ /.
If the file is large (over 2GB), attempt to split the file and upload it or use compression tools like 7-zip, etc.
Sharing files on Google Drive also requires attention. If you haven't shared the file on Google Drive with other users, they won't be able to open the shared file.
