How to Fix Unikey Installation Issue: Unable to Type Vietnamese?
*Cause 1: You haven't activated Unikey, turn on Unikey on your computer
Usually, even after installing Unikey on your computer, if you don't turn it on and activate it, you still won't be able to type Vietnamese. To turn on Unikey on Windows, follow these steps:
- On Windows 7 and Windows 10: press Start Menu > type Unikey and access the search results.
On Windows 8 and 8.1: Press Windows + S > type Unikey and access the search results. Alternatively, quickly access the shortcut directly on the desktop.
For detailed instructions, you, Viet, can refer to the troubleshooting guide for fixing Unikey unable to type Vietnamese shared by Mytour.
* Cause 2: You haven't enabled Vietnamese typing mode in Unikey
Even if you have enabled Unikey on your computer, you still can't type Vietnamese because you haven't activated Vietnamese typing mode in Unikey, in other words, you haven't used the shortcut keys to toggle Vietnamese typing mode in Unikey.
Typically, to enable/disable typing Vietnamese on Unikey, users must access Unikey settings and switch the typing mode from English to Vietnamese. However, the software also provides Unikey shortcut keys that allow users to toggle typing Vietnamese on Unikey using keyboard shortcuts.
After switching to Vietnamese, you can type Vietnamese using Unikey.
So to enable Vietnamese typing mode in Unikey, you need two common keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl + Shift and Alt + Z. By default, these are the two keyboard shortcuts that switch between English and Vietnamese typing modes in Unikey. Depending on your preference, readers can choose the Unikey shortcut keys that they are most familiar with. And remember to always enable Unikey at startup in order to immediately activate Unikey.
One of the common issues that Windows users often encounter is font errors in Word and Excel, however, in reality, font errors in Word or Excel can be quickly resolved using Unikey through the software's encoding conversion. This is a small tip that you, Viet, and many other users should know.
