Today, despite the existence of various web browsers such as Google Chrome, Firefox, or Opera, Internet Explorer remains the number one choice for many globally as it is the default browser for the Windows operating system.
Like other web browsers, IE also encounters common errors, with the most prominent being the 'Internet Explorer has stopped working' error. There are various methods to fix this situation, and this article will present all possible solutions for your convenience.
Fixing the 'Internet Explorer has stopped working' error
Method 1: Set default parameters in IE.
- Close the IE browser, click Start Menu ---> type Internet Options in the Search Programs and Files section, open Internet Options.
- In the Internet Options window, select the Advanced tab ---> Reset ---> OK
At this point, IE has reverted to its default state as if freshly installed. Restart IE and use it again.
Method 2: Disable Microsoft services that may impact IE's operation.
* On the Services tab --> Click Hide all Microsoft services to display all Microsoft services.
Click Disable all --> OK to save the settings.
- Restart your computer and use IE normally.
Method 3: Disable IE's protection features.
- Open the IE browser, press the Alt key on the keyboard to display the IE toolbar, select Tool --> Internet Options
In the Internet Options window, select the Security tab --> Uncheck Enable Protection Mode --> Click OK to close the window.
Restart Internet Explorer.
Method 4: Manually remove Add-ons from other software installed on IE.
To optimize IE performance, remove Add-ons that come with software installed on your computer. The most incompatible Add-on with IE is Skype, so if you have Skype installed on your computer, it is advisable to remove Skype Add-ons for IE.
Method 5: Disable Add-ons on your computer (this method has been explained by Mytour in the article addressing the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' error).
Method 6: Remove unused toolbars from the browser.
If you have accidentally downloaded any toolbar or some toolbars from the websites you visited, it's best to remove them from the browser.
Method 7: Uninstall IE from your computer and reinstall the browser.
When all the above methods fail to address the 'Internet Explorer has stopped working' error, it's best to uninstall and reinstall IE.
