Dục Thanh Academy was founded by patriotic scholars and Confucianists to respond to the Duy Tân movement initiated by Phan Châu Trinh, Trần Quý Cáp, and Huỳnh Thúc Kháng in Central Vietnam at that time. The construction fund for the school was sponsored by a patriotic philanthropist, Mr. Huỳnh Văn Đẩu, and the Liên Thành Trade Association. All students attending the academy were exempt from school construction fees and tuition fees.

To the right of the classroom wing lies the Fish House. Formerly, this was where various fishing tools such as nets, fishing implements, and fish sauce-making equipment of the Nguyen Thong family were housed, built since 1906. In 1907, when Duc Thanh School was established, this area was converted into a boarding house for teachers and students from distant provinces who came to teach and learn. During his teaching tenure at this school, it was also where Teacher Nguyen Tat Thanh, later known as Ho Chi Minh, resided.
Behind the classrooms and the Fish House is the Bamboo Pavilion. This is where important discussions, receiving esteemed guests, and poetic debates among teachers, Confucian scholars, and patriotic intellectuals took place. The antique tables and chairs in these buildings are still meticulously preserved.

Behind the Bamboo Pavilion, visitors will be guided to explore a well, built with bricks. To this day, the well remains crystal clear. Near the well is a hundred-year-old starfruit tree planted by Mr. Nguyen Thong himself, still lush and green throughout the year. Various types of flowering plants, fruit trees, and miniature landscapes within the historical site are always meticulously cared for and neatly trimmed.
