According to sources from the Taiwanese Central News Agency, TSMC may have ceased its discount program for semiconductor chip production for major partners. This could indicate an upcoming shift towards increased chip prices. Various tech products, including laptops, smartphones, graphics cards, and other gadgets equipped with semiconductor chips manufactured by TSMC, might also see price hikes as a result. The Taiwanese Central News Agency reports that TSMC offers a special incentive program for its major partners. When TSMC's partners place orders for semiconductor chip production ranging from 10,000 to over 100,000 300mm silicon wafers per order, TSMC provides a 3% discount per wafer. With each wafer being processed into hundreds or thousands of processing chips, experts estimate the value of a silicon wafer produced on TSMC's 5nm process to be nearly $17,000 and over $9,000 for a wafer produced on the 7nm process.Although a 3% discount may seem insignificant at first glance, considering the standard die yield rate and the number of standard dies per wafer, the savings for TSMC's partners could be substantial, particularly in terms of the manufacturing cost per processing chip. It's worth noting that among the entities benefiting from TSMC's support program are AMD, Nvidia, and Apple.According to TechPowerUp
