Using 2FA keys is a great way to protect your online accounts. The main advantage of using 2FA security keys over traditional two-factor authentication is that you're less vulnerable to SIM swap scams, a pitfall even Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey couldn't avoid. Other two-factor authentication methods on Twitter include text messages (not recommended) and authentication apps.
Notably, Twitter has supported hardware security keys on the web, thanks to the WebAuthn protocol. The latest update extends this feature to Twitter's mobile version, which is certainly a welcome addition.
To set up 2FA keys, you'll need to navigate to Settings and Privacy > Account > Security > Two-factor authentication > enable Security key in Twitter. You can disable 2FA keys on the same page later if needed, although it's not advisable. Besides Twitter, users should also enable two-factor authentication on other social networks like Facebook and Instagram to protect their accounts.
