Two-Day Tour of An Giang During the Flooding Season
According to the itinerary for exploring Chau Doc - Binh Thien (An Giang) 2 days 1 night later, you'll have the opportunity to visit many attractions while still saving costs (around 1 million VND for two people).
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Chau Doc (An Giang)
6 AM: Departure from Ho Chi Minh City to Chau Doc.
You can purchase ferry tickets at the Mien Tay Bus Station for 150,000-200,000 VND per person. The journey takes about 6 hours. If taking the ferry, consider departing around 9-10 PM. This way, by around 6 AM, you'll arrive in Chau Doc.
If traveling by motorbike, you can depart from Ho Chi Minh City to Chau Doc in two ways. One is via National Highway 1 - My Thuan Bridge - turn right onto National Highway 80 - Vam Cong ferry - Long Xuyen - National Highway 91 - Chau Doc. The other is via National Highway 1 - Long An - turn right onto National Highway 62 towards Moc Hoa - Chau Doc.
The 2-day 1-night itinerary suggested in the transportation advice article is for motorbike travel.
7:30 AM: Stopover in Tien Giang City, enjoy My Tho's signature hu tieu noodles.
8 AM: Continue the journey to Chau Doc.
12 PM: Lunch break.
1:30 PM: Arrive in Chau Doc, check into the hotel.
4 PM: Explore the nearby Cham Great Mosque. Don't forget to buy and savor local snacks sold outside the mosque.
5 PM: Head to Sam Mountain. Witness the sunset from the mountaintop and admire Chau Doc from above.
6:30 PM: Descend the mountain, visit the Lady of the Realm shrine, explore, and admire the temple scenery. Apart from the Lady of the Realm shrine, you can also visit many other temples at the foot of Sam Mountain such as Tay An Ancient Pagoda, Thoai Ngoc Hau Mausoleum...
7:30 PM: Enjoy dinner with dishes like crab noodle soup, soy milk at the night market near the temple or head to famous beef hotpot and beef porridge restaurants in Chau Doc.
8:30 PM: Drive around to admire Chau Doc at night.
Day 2: Tra Su Melaleuca Forest – Thất Sơn – Tà Pạ Mountain – Ho Chi Minh City
6 AM: Depart for Tra Su Melaleuca Forest. The entrance fee for Tra Su is 60,000 VND per boat. Each boat can accommodate 4 people. Upon arrival at Tra Su, you'll witness a stunning natural landscape with lush water hyacinths, melodious bird songs, and playful fish...
9 AM: Arrive at Forbidden Mountain. The entrance fee is 20,000 VND per person. Note that the path up the mountain is challenging. For safety, consider hiring a motorbike taxi (80,000 VND per person for round trip). Experiences at Forbidden Mountain include admiring ancient trees, waterfalls, lakes, and panoramic views from the top.
12 PM: Lunch break.
1 PM: Leave Forbidden Mountain for Tà Pạ Mountain. From the hilltop, you'll see vast fields with towering palm trees standing out against the deep blue sky.
12 PM: Depart from Tà Pạ Mountain, heading back to Ho Chi Minh City. Ending the 2-day 1-night exploration of Chau Doc - Binh Thien wetland (An Giang).
