The Chinese language employs pictographic characters and does not use a dedicated Latin alphabet. To type Chinese on your computer, you need to rely on the phonetic transcription system of this language. You can observe that the default language is English, abbreviated with the letters ENG in the bottom right corner of the screen.
To switch languages and type Chinese on Windows 10, click on the ENG letter icon.
You will see a list displaying the available languages on your computer. In the example image, you can see Vietnamese and English. To add the ability to type Chinese on your computer, select Language preferences at the bottom line.
The Settings window appears for you to adjust language settings on your computer. In addition to the two available languages, English and Vietnamese, you can click on Add a language to add a new language.
Next, search for the language by typing keywords. Here you can only search in English or in the language itself. Since we need to type in Chinese, the keyword is Chinese. When you enter the keyword in the search box, you can see different Chinese languages. If you want to use simplified Chinese characters, you can select Chinese (Simplified, China).

Downloading a new language may take a little time; please wait for it to complete the download.
Once downloaded, the new language will be added to your computer. To complete the installation and set it as the default language, you need to restart your computer.
After installation, you can use the keyboard to type Chinese through pinyin phonetics.
Switch between installed languages effortlessly by clicking on the language abbreviation icon on the Taskbar in the bottom right corner of the screen.
When switching back to a different language, you can type in that language as you normally would.
