Fujifilm unveils the X-E4 almost 4 years after the existence of the X-E3, a compact camera in the X series that allows for interchangeable lenses. As someone who has previously used the X-E3, the X-E4 proves to be a worthwhile and timely upgrade for those who appreciate a compact camera for daily shooting. Its design is a blend of classic minimalism, yet its technical specifications rival high-end counterparts. The X-E4 is manufactured in Indonesia, while the 27mm pancake lens is produced in the Philippines. The X-E4 itself embodies simplicity, even more so than the X-E3. The front face is entirely flat, with the mode selection button and grip removed for a clean and compact appearance. While the basic price remains comparable to the X-E3, the design without a grip may require an additional investment for Fujifilm accessories.
The overall design closely resembles the X-E3, but with a significant reduction in thickness, partly due to the removal of the grip. The camera is now nearly 1cm thinner and remarkably lightweight (with the 27mm pancake lens attached), providing a comfortable grip. The top still features the control dials, now with the addition of the P (Program Mode) and Q (Quick Menu) buttons. The back has only 5 buttons and a joystick, along with a 3” flip screen and EVF. Similar to the X-T4 or GFX100s, the X-E4 is now equipped with a flip screen, facilitating easy video recording.Included with the camera (if purchased as a kit) is the 27mm lens, whereas the older X-E3 kit came with a 23mm lens. Alternatively, you can choose to buy the camera body alone and select a different lens or use an existing one. Fujifilm emphasizes that the X-E4 is the smallest camera in the X series that allows for interchangeable lenses.
The camera comes equipped with a 26.1MP APS-C sensor, similar to the X-T4 or X100V, featuring the X Processor 4 quad-core, capturing at a continuous 20fps (electronic shutter), improving autofocus capabilities, and recording in 4k at 30fps. Unfortunately, the camera still uses an SD UFS-I card slot instead of the faster UFS-II. The official retail price is around 20 million VND for the body alone or 25 million VND with a lens.
