Post-installation, Lipizzan not only downloads a second 'license' but also surveys the infected Android device, confirming the annulment of specific criteria. The second phase involves rooting the device and initiating data leaks to the Command & Control server.

Android Spyware with Espionage Capabilities
Once infiltrated into devices, the Android spyware Lipizzan can record calls, capture audio from the device's microphone, track locations, take screenshots, and snap photos with the camera. It scavenges device and user details, including calls, contacts, text messages, and app data, with a keen focus on popular apps like WhatsApp, Gmail, Skype, and Telegram. Notably, Skype and WhatsApp are currently the most vulnerable to information leaks during online chats.
According to Google, after the initial wave of Lipizzan-infected apps was thwarted by Google Play Protect, cybercriminals attempted to upload a series of Lipizzan-infected apps with new names and encrypted Phase 2 code to bypass the Play Store's filters.
Google reveals that upon the discovery of additional Android Spyware stealing user information, approximately 100 Android devices were found infected by this Android Lipizzan spyware, constituting 0.000007% of the total Android devices. The company pledges to eradicate Lipizzan infections completely through Google Play Protect and prevent installations on other devices.
