Recent Updates on LMHT vs Mobile Legends Copyright Dispute Likely to Displease Riot
At the beginning of this year, Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends (LMHT), announced their intention to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, developed by Moonton. However, the current developments have not favored Riot or League of Legends.

Specifically, Riot filed their lawsuit in May 2022, but it was rejected with the reason that both parties should resolve their dispute in a more appropriate venue. According to the American judge overseeing the case, the disagreement between the two corporations should be settled in China.
This is explained by Riot Games, although based in Los Angeles, being under the management of Tencent. Meanwhile, Moonton is a company based in China. Moonton argued that to resolve the dispute between the two companies, it would be best to hold the trial elsewhere. Riot objected to this request but ultimately was still rejected by the US court.

Responding to PC Gamer, Riot stated: 'We strongly disagree with the court's decision, especially the conclusion that the case should be resolved elsewhere. Riot is a US-based company but has to pursue copyright infringement complaints elsewhere... Importantly, Moonton's game is not even released in China. We are exploring next steps, including appeals.'
Riot and Moonton have been embroiled in legal disputes regarding League of Legends and Mobile Legends for quite some time. In 2017, Riot attempted to sue Moonton. Consequently, Mobile Legends was temporarily removed from app stores at that time. Afterwards, with some adjustments, the game was rebranded as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Ultimately, Riot's efforts were temporarily dismissed, at least as of the current time in 2022.
