Exciting Improvements Await: The Read Aloud feature on Microsoft Office for iOS is set to receive innovative enhancements, as outlined in the Microsoft 365 roadmap. This includes the ability to read documents within the Office app even when the screen is locked.

Recent additions to the feature roadmap were made by Microsoft last week, with the promise of availability for iOS users later this month. However, with just a few days left until May, it remains uncertain whether the feature will debut this week or if unexpected changes from Microsoft are in store.

Currently, the Office for iOS app only allows users to listen to documents on their phones when the device screen is unlocked. In case of a locked screen, the app will automatically pause the playback.
