iOS 11 has landed on Apple devices, bringing with it 5 new tricks that let you make the most out of every available feature without the need for any third-party apps.
1. Harness the power of the iOS 11 Camera with these 5 tricks
iOS 11 has made its way to Apple devices, introducing 5 new tricks on this operating system version that help you maximize all the built-in functions without the need to download any third-party apps.
LIVE PHOTOS NOW MORE VIBRANT THAN EVER
We all know that Live Photos, present on iPhones since the iPhone 6S, allow capturing 1.5 seconds before and after taking a photo. Despite being introduced 2 years ago, not many users have fully embraced Live Photos. However, with iOS 11, you can now delete third-party apps previously used for editing Live Photos (like Motion Stills or Lively) as iOS 11 enables users to edit Live Photos directly within the Photos app. Simply select the photo you want to edit, perform a simple swipe-up gesture, and the screen will display a range of effects for you to choose from. You can create a looping video, speed up or play in reverse, and even adjust brightness with the Long Exposure option.

QR CODE READING FEATURE
iOS now fully supports QR code reading directly in the system app. If, in the past, users had to download a third-party app for what seemed like a simple task of scanning a QR code, now all you need to do is point your camera if you need to access a QR code. Once the iPhone successfully confirms, you'll receive a notification about the QR code and the actions you can take.
DOCUMENT SCANNING
Although not exactly a feature within the Camera app, the document scanning feature on iPhone running iOS 11 still utilizes the device's camera sensor. Specifically, when in the Notes app, simply press the '+' button above the keyboard, select Scan Documents, and proceed. After scanning, you can share or choose Markup to highlight text, sign, or add annotations to the document before sending. While the feature is quite lightweight and doesn't support many additional features like text recognition for searching documents, for basic usage, this feature is more than sufficient. The best part is that you can now uninstall third-party apps, freeing up more iPhone storage.

SAVE STORAGE SPACE
Speaking of freeing up iPhone memory, it's worth mentioning that the primary reason most iPhones get a memory full notification is due to an abundance of photos and videos. With iOS 11, Apple provides users with a simple way to free up more of this precious GB of storage. In the Camera section of Settings, users can find the Formats option to choose between High Efficiency and Most Compatible. High Efficiency allows photos to be saved in HEIF format, reducing the file size by half compared to JPEG without compromising image quality. Meanwhile, Compatible will keep the image format unchanged for compatibility with more platforms, but it also increases storage usage.
