How to trim a video on Windows 10 without using any third-party apps
Using the Photos app to cut a video
If your video is indexed by the Photos app, simply open the Photos app by typing Photos into the Search box on the Start menu. Then, find and click on the video.
If the video is not indexed by the Photos app, open File Explorer, navigate to the folder where you store the video, right-click on the video, and choose Open with =>Photos.
While a video is playing, additional options appear on the top bar. If you don't see these options, just click on the video, and they will appear. Your main goal is to trim the video; click on Edit and Create =>Trim.
There are no configuration options. Simply move the start and end sliders to select the portion of the video you want to keep. By clicking the Play button icon, you can preview how the video segment will look after trimming.
If satisfied with the result, click on the Save a Copy button. Depending on the size, quality, and resolution, the process of saving the trimmed video may take some time.
After completion, navigate to the folder where you saved the video, and you will see the newly trimmed video. Windows will append 'trim' to the end of the file name for easy identification of the trimmed video file.
Trimming videos with the Movies & TV app
Alternatively, you can utilize the Movies & TV app, also known as the Films & TV app, to cut videos on Windows 10.
Similar to the Photos app, if the video is indexed by the app, click on the video to play. If not, you can locate the video in File Explorer, then right-click on the video and choose Open with =>Movies & TV.
While the video is playing, click on the Edit icon and select Trim.
The video will open in the video cutting window within the Photos app. Similar to the previous method, use the slider to trim the video. After completion, click on the Save a Copy button to save the trimmed video.
Although there is no option to play, the Photos app provides users with easy-to-use video trimming options without compromising video quality. The Windows properties window shows that the audio and video bitrate of the trimmed video have decreased slightly but not significantly.
