1. Enable Secret Chat Mode
While regular chats on Telegram are encrypted from the user to the server and cannot be accessed unless the server is compromised, Secret Chats take security to another level by providing end-to-end encryption between users. These chats exist for a short period and are not stored on Telegram servers. Additionally, you can schedule messages to self-destruct from one second to one week.
To start a Secret Chat, select the contact you want to chat with and tap on the ellipsis icon at the top right corner of the screen and choose Start Secret Chat.
2. Pin Messages in Channels
Telegram allows you to create channels as a platform to deliver public announcements to everyone. Unlike groups, channels can have an unlimited number of members, and messages sent in channels are marked with the channel name instead of yours.
Due to the potentially large scale of a channel, it can be challenging for everyone to read an important message before it gets buried. To address this, you can pin messages in a channel by long-pressing on the message and selecting Pin. Then, the message will always stay at the top until unpinned.
3. Share Location
You can easily send your location to friends on Telegram. To share your location, simply open a chat and tap on the paperclip icon and select Location. Finally, press the Share button to share.
4. Utilize hashtags to discover relevant messages
When utilizing hashtags within a message, words preceded by the # symbol become searchable, enabling you to view all messages related to that topic. Simply tap on the hashtag, and all messages containing that # will appear.
5. Lock your conversations
It's undeniable that Telegram has gained popularity due to its focus on privacy. The service not only provides end-to-end encryption on the server side but also allows users to lock their conversations. This is excellent for safeguarding your private chats when handing your phone to anyone else.
To lock a conversation, navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security > Passcode Lock. Once you create and activate a passcode, you'll be able to lock and unlock your conversations by tapping the padlock icon located in the top right corner of the app.
6. Utilize multiple Telegram accounts
With the latest updates, Telegram has introduced support for multiple accounts simultaneously. This is extremely useful for those who maintain separate accounts for work and personal use. To add a new account, tap the downward arrow icon next to your name and select Add Account.
Afterward, all you need to do is add the new number and follow the on-screen instructions. You can switch between accounts by tapping the downward arrow icon next to your name and selecting the desired account.
7. Change phone number
You can easily switch your phone number associated with your account without losing your previous conversations. This means all messages will transfer to the new phone number, and your new number will automatically be added to all your existing Telegram contacts, except for blocked contacts. To change your phone number, tap on Settings and Phone Number. Then, press Change Number, enter the new number, and tap the checkmark icon in the top right corner of the screen to save the changes.
8. Slow Mode feature
If you're a group admin on Telegram, Slow Mode is what you need to combat spam and maintain order in the conversation. After enabling Slow Mode and selecting a specific time interval, members will only be able to send 1 message within that period. For example: if you choose a time interval of 15 seconds, after sending 1 message, group members will have to wait 15 seconds before sending another message.
To enable Slow Mode, tap on group name > pencil icon > Permissions > Slow Mode.
9. Add animated stickers to photos/videos
You can add animated stickers, also known as Animated Stickers, to both photos and videos. However, you should note that after adding these stickers, still images will turn into GIFs and may experience a reduction in quality. To use this feature, select a photo/video and tap on the brush icon located at the bottom of the screen. Then, tap on the sticker icon to add stickers.
10. Video editing
Telegram already had a powerful video editor, and now the company has added some advanced tools for you to edit your videos. All you need to do is open the chat, select the video you want to send. Then, tap on the editing icon to access the new video editing tools. Here, you can adjust the contrast, saturation, and brightness... There's also an RGB chart to adjust colors.
11. Delete messages from the sender
You can definitely delete messages you've sent, but did you know that Telegram also includes a feature to delete messages you receive from others? It's a bit strange, but this feature is for users who prioritize privacy above all else. To delete messages from the sender, simply select the received message and press the Delete button. Now, select Also delete for... and click Delete. The message will disappear from both ends without leaving any trace.
