With the insights we're about to share, you'll transform your Google Drive into a tidy and organized space, saving both effort and time in tidying up:
1. Identify Large Files.
We often stick to the free usage tier with a limited capacity of 15GB. Therefore, it's essential to sift through files to avoid hogging resources. Identify and delete files you no longer need to make room for future important ones.
To see which files are taking up space, click on the “Buy more storage” button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Then, hover over the pie chart that appears in the center.
2. Colorize Your Folders
You can easily add colors to your folders to make them more visually appealing and easier to find by right-clicking on the folder > selecting “Change Color”.
3. Number Your File Names
Prefix your files with numbers to organize them in a clear and visually pleasing manner, for example: 1_Documents, 2_Contracts, 3_Training....
To do this, click on the folder or file, then choose Rename.
To manage file versions, right-click on the file and select 'Manage version'.
4. Star Different Files.
For important files, you can add stars to easily locate them when needed, similar to the feature in Gmail. Simply click on the file > Right-click > select “Add Star”. View all starred files by clicking on 'Starred'.
5. Organize Files into Folders upon Upload/Creation.
This may seem trivial, but instead of uploading files haphazardly onto Google Drive, create folders first and then upload into them. This will undoubtedly be much more convenient.
6. Don't Forget to Install the App on Your Device.
Installing the app instead of accessing Google Drive through a web browser will save you time. Additionally, the app facilitates synchronization and file backup, making downloading and uploading tasks much easier.
