In reality, your computer system hosts numerous useful features that you might not be aware of. By activating and utilizing these features, you can have a more enjoyable experience on your computer.
Utilizing 3 Hidden Windows Features
1. Enhanced 'Send to' Menu:
Instead of the usual 'Copy' and 'Paste' routine for file manipulation, you can now ensure that files are directly copied/moved to your desired folder by adding that folder to the 'Send to' menu feature.
To access the 'Send to' menu, press the Win+R combination (Windows key and R key), then enter the following command:
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
The username here corresponds to your computer account name. In my case, the username is Mytour.
As shown in the image, you can proceed to delete or add additional folders to the SendTo directory.
Now, if you want to move a specific file to your desired folder, simply right-click on the file, choose Send to, and select the folder you want to move it to. In my case, it's the Downloads folder.
2 Reset Printer Queue When Printing Errors Occur (Computer Hangs and Cannot Restart)
During printing, issues like printer ink clogs or document information not loading may occur, preventing the printer from functioning. The common solution is to restart the computer, but there's a quicker alternative without the need for a reboot.
First, press the Win+R combination (Windows key and R key), type services.msc, and press Enter.
Once the Services window appears, locate the Print Spooler item, right-click on it, and choose Stop.
Next, press the Win+R combination again, type the following command, and press Enter.
C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
A new folder appears; delete all files inside it. Then, reopen the Services window, right-click on Print Spooler, and select Start
3. Override User Account Control (UAC) for Applications
User Account Control (UAC) is integrated into Windows 7-8 to restrict software access for regular users.
As per recommendations, it's advisable not to disable this function. Instead, you can configure the software that UAC doesn't interfere with using the Elevated Shortcut tool.
First, download Elevated Shortcut from this link.
After downloading and installing, open the software, and you'll see the following window:
Click on Modify Shortcut, select the application you want to add, and press OK. After completion, your application will have 'Elevated' added to its name.
Thus, in this article, we've guided you on how to activate and utilize three hidden features on the Windows operating system. We hope these handy tricks will be beneficial for you in your computer usage.
