When shooting intimate scenes, film crews must hire intimacy coordinators to direct and ensure the actors feel comfortable.
Recently, Insider interviewed David Thackeray - an intimacy coordinator working with Warner Bros., Apple TV, BBC, and HBO, discussing regulations surrounding sensitive scenes in Hollywood films. These scenes are meticulously crafted to avoid any negative impact on the actors.
According to Insider, the process of shooting steamy scenes is highly complex. As the stars immerse themselves in their characters, excitement and arousal are common. Intimacy coordinators like David Thackeray are present to ensure everything proceeds according to protocol.
'When actors engage in steamy scenes, they fully embody their characters, so it's understandable that their emotions can be influenced and heightened. To address this awkward situation, professionalism is key. We adhere to specific protocols to reduce the actors' excitement, such as requesting a 5-minute break to regain composure, clarity, and emotional coolness,' revealed David Thackeray.

Experts in steamy scenes further state: 'The worst thing is when the crew continues shooting regardless. Professionals like us must express a clear attitude to the film crew, explaining the specific situation so that no one feels offended or uncomfortable.'
Experts like David Thackeray not only ensure smooth scene execution but also guarantee the prevention of any instances of sexual harassment or misconduct after the scene concludes.
According to Insider, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has proposed a list of regulations, scene details, and actor agreements for sensitive segment execution. This is referred to as Nudity Riders.
