Nextorage's latest release, the NE5N SSD, is now introduced, featuring PCIe Gen 5 standard and targeting the high-end PC market. The NE5N is set to hit the market on June 5th, with prices starting at $250 for the 1TB variant and $500 for the 2TB variant.Founded in 2019 by Sony, Nextorage initially aimed to develop SSDs for the PlayStation 5 gaming console. However, Sony's plans shifted when Phison acquired a majority stake in the company. The 2TB variant of NE5N is advertised to boast maximum read and write speeds of 10GB/s, random data access speeds of 1.4 million IOPS, and a data write endurance of 1,400 TB. On the surface of this M.2 standard SSD lies 4GB of DDR4 SDRAM.Meanwhile, the 1TB variant features maximum read speeds of 9,500 MB/s and write speeds of 8,500 MB/s. Random data read speeds decrease to 1.3 million IOPS. It comes equipped with 2GB of DDR4 SDRAM, with a data write endurance of 700 TB.
But perhaps the most impressive aspect of this premium solid-state drive, as you may have noticed, is its dual-layer cooling system. Nextorage believes that equipping a heatsink nearly 4cm tall is necessary to provide ample space and hardware cooling for both the controller and NAND chips on the surface of this PCIe Gen 5 M.2 standard SSD.Featuring not just one, but two heatsinks with copper tubes connecting each heatsink, a design patented by Nextorage, the NE5N promises excellent cooling performance for the SSD components. However, this size makes the NE5N suitable only for ATX or mATX PC systems, as it poses challenges in terms of space when installed in Mini ITX systems. Additionally, when installed in a PS5, this drive cannot accommodate both the SSD cover plate and the plastic side cover.According to Tom's Hardware
