Dragon Ball Super takes Goku's story to new heights by exploring the past of Bardock and Gine
One of the biggest mysteries in Dragon Ball that still lingers is the origin of Goku and his parents, Bardock and Gine - individuals almost erased from Goku's memory. Dragon Ball Super has provided audiences with more detailed information about Goku's parents, who might play a crucial role in upcoming events.
4. Bardock, the Ideal Husband
Undeniably, Goku is an inspiring character, but he's not perfect. One of Goku's weaknesses is his relationship with Chi-Chi. Goku has a somewhat distant connection with his wife, explained by Dragon Ball as a characteristic of the Saiyan race. Saiyans pair up for reproductive purposes rather than love, and Saiyan warriors are unfamiliar with pure emotions. However, Bardock and Gine's case seems to be an exception; they show mutual respect, evident in both saving Goku from danger.
3. Bardock and Gine Allow Raditz to Join Training
A couple deeply cherishes Goku, choosing to send him to Earth to escape the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Bardock and Gine empathize with their youngest son, allowing the child to forge his own destiny.
However, Bardock and Gine have another child besides Goku - Raditz - a child treated entirely differently. They let Raditz familiarize himself with the training and battles, permitting him to travel across galaxies to hone his skills. Both Bardock and Gine take great pride in their son being able to train alongside Prince Vegeta.
2. Uncontrollable Great Ape Form
In the original Dragon Ball storyline, the Great Ape form was considered an effective and powerful tool for Saiyans in battles. However, over time, it became incompatible with the power dynamics introduced by Super Saiyan. Initially, Saiyan Elites like Vegeta could control themselves while using the Great Ape form. On the other hand, lower-level Saiyans could maintain the Great Ape form stably and consciously. Bardock and Gine belonged to this lower-level warrior class, hence unable to control their Great Ape forms.
1. Bardock Time Travels and Achieves Super Saiyan
Prior to Dragon Ball Super, Bardock's appearances were limited to flashbacks, restricting information about him. To appease fans, Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock was introduced with a storyline centered around Bardock. In this episode, the Saiyan warrior time travels and battles Frieza's ancestor, Chilled. Bardock even transforms into a Super Saiyan. While fans unanimously agree that events in this extended film should not be considered canon, it still provides a wealth of new information about Bardock and his strength.
