(Homeland) - Dracula is a legendary character in horror literature as well as on the big screen, and
For centuries, Dracula has been regarded as one of the most iconic characters in the world of horror across all ages. Serving as the titular character of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula is the archetypal model for most (if not all) vampires that followed in the 20th and 21st centuries.
To date, numerous books, TV shows, and films about Dracula or at least related to this character have been created, including the recently released horror film 'Renfield' starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula. This year, fans of this classic character will welcome another film, which will explore the original novel's content from a fresh perspective. Specifically, Universal Pictures has officially unveiled the first trailer for the film 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' as shown below:
Official Trailer of 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter'
According to the film's synopsis, 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' will be based on a short chapter in Bram Stoker's novel 'Dracula.' The film tells the chilling story of the merchant ship Demeter, tasked with transporting 50 crates filled with soil from Carpathia to London. During the tumultuous journey at sea, the crew must face bizarre events and strive to survive against a ruthless creature that stalks them every night.
In film adaptations of previous novels, the journey of the Demeter ship is often summarized in a few scenes or even entirely omitted. This is understandable as it's just a minor detail, spanning only a few pages of the novel. Therefore, with the length of a standard film, 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' promises to bring audiences intriguing and equally horrifying details of the ship and its ill-fated crew.
The Poster for 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter''The Last Voyage of the Demeter' is set to be screened in multiple international film markets from August 11, 2023. The film is directed by André Øvredal, known for his work on horror films such as 'The Autopsy of Jane Doe' and 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark'. André shares his hope of creating the most terrifying Dracula film ever.
