The Era of Primordial Humanity
According to Fontaine legend, in the earliest era, the ocean was the origin of all beings and also the final destination of all life. The first humans emerged and lived in a world free from the dominion of law and authority, instead sustaining peaceful coexistence through their own morality. Envoys of Celestia appeared on the earth, guiding the people and bringing them eternal peace, prosperity, and abundance. The relic known as the Aquatic Crown once spoke of this, though few remember. It is believed that Celestia itself is the Sky Island, and the era of Fontaine's primordial humanity began after the battle between the First and Second ascended ones came to an end.

Countless generations later, humanity grew weary and dissatisfied with eternity. They no longer wished to heed the instructions of divine beings but rather sought to cast off the shackles of destiny. This angered the divine beings. They commanded the ocean to unleash colossal waves to destroy all civilizations, followed by a 100-day rain washing away all traces of sin and hubris. Those who survived atop high seas struggled to survive against the harsh elements, no longer sheltered by divine protection.
The first generation of high-sea humans came to an end, making way for newly emerging civilizations. In the south, the Gurabad dynasty rose and fell, while those from the east also came and saw the borders of the high seas, yet the indigenous inhabitants remained oblivious and obscure. They knew nothing of the glorious past of their ancestors.

One fateful day, Remus—later known as the 'usurper king'—set foot upon the high seas aboard the golden vessel, Fortuna. There, he encountered the dragon king, Scylla, was bestowed a goblet of water, and used it to craft the dew gem, thus establishing a mighty empire. He brought civilization and order to the ancient seas, teaching people agriculture, erecting cities and temples, propagating poetry and art. Humans became eminent beings, regarding themselves as masters of all.

With an invincible fleet at his command, Remus conquered every island in the high seas, consolidating them under his rule. He welcomed all who wished to join his nation while ruthlessly eliminating cruelty and ignorance. He named his land Remuria and became its divine ruler. In its golden age, even the 'giant sea dragon' bowed in awe.
It seems eternal prosperity is poised to return once more to the primitive race. Remus constructed a colossal lighthouse existing between reality and dreams, guiding ships across the high seas, awakening even those sailors lost in the dreams of sea monsters. It boasts cities brimming with gold, spices, and delicacies. It possesses structures surpassing the imagination of modern minds. It is the reincarnation of paradise on the earthly realm.

At some point in his reign, Remus ventured to the kingdom of the Vishap, and upon his return, he was determined to establish an eternal kingdom. The divine king's idea was utterly mad: he wished to use the Aether to merge with pure water, creating a substance capable of storing both soul and memory, allowing his divine people to transcend their bodies, achieving eternal life.
But such transmutation was exceedingly painful, beyond what humans could endure. 'The Aether echoes with the mournful cries of countless souls tainted black, within which harmony of spirit is lost, leaving only chaos and madness.' Unspoiled waters hidden deep within mountains and valleys, untouched by human footprints, guarded by the Water Knights.

Yet even if Remus could succeed in enabling his divine people to abandon their physical forms, his empire could not endure eternally. We learn this from the ingredient Pure Dew Essence: 'The ultimate ambition of the divine king eventually sank to the depths of the dark sea, lost in the currents of time, and even the golden Aether was corroded by the primal waters.'
