Explore the intriguing history of Ma Thiên Lãnh Bridge Monument.
Today, the historical site of Ma Thiên Lãnh Bridge only retains two bridge piers. Visiting this relic reveals the harsh conditions endured by the prisoners of Con Dao, known as the 'hell on earth'.

Under the French colonial rule, Con Dao prisoners constructed 2 bridge spans, each 8 meters tall. Currently, only two bridge piers remain at the Ma Thiên Lãnh Bridge Monument in Con Dao. Each stone on this bridge represents the sacrifices of revolutionary soldiers who carried the unwavering spirit of national liberation. In August 1945, construction of the Ma Thiên Lãnh Bridge ceased. This unfinished project, undertaken by the French, holds significant historical importance for our nation.

What deeply saddens the local people is the realization that this bridge was the site of the demise of 356 individuals during its construction, due to hunger, thirst, treacherous terrain, poisonous forests, falling rocks, or exhaustion. Today, at Ma Thiên Lãnh Bridge, commemorative plaques and incense burners serve as tributes to the departed.

Upon arrival, you will walk through a small uphill path, surrounded by lush vegetation. The ascent consists mainly of stairs, providing good traction but still demanding. Here, visitors can also explore Ông Đụng Beach. As it is part of the Con Dao National Park, the beach is well preserved, boasting pristine scenery. Additionally, visitors can enjoy snorkeling to admire the diverse coral reefs and marine ecosystems, or simply relax on the tranquil, serene sandy shores.
