In the 1440p Aztec Ruins test (off screen), the M1 Ultra with 64 GPU cores achieves ~484fps. Here, the difference between the 64 GPU cores and the previous 48 GPU cores becomes apparent, as the previous M1 Ultra only reached ~414fps in Mytour's benchmark. Compared to M1 Max or M1, this gap is still quite significant.Handbrake
Mytour continues to encode the film Big Buck Bunny from 4K@60fps to 1080p@30fps using the VeryFast preset. The total time taken by this 160 million VND M1 Ultra is only 182 seconds. The previous Mac Studio with M1 Ultra 48 cores achieved a similar time, showing no difference.Premiere Pro
This final test can be considered the most practical, closely aligning with the purpose for which the Mac Studio is designed: video rendering.
In this test, I rendered a Premiere Pro project featuring a Nikon Z6 4K30p file with a duration of 12 minutes and 45 seconds. The project included various edits such as animations from After Effects, stabilization, and color correction.
The M1 Ultra with 64 GPU cores renders faster than the M1 Ultra with 48 GPU cores, taking 415 seconds compared to 437 seconds. The frame drop rate of this machine is also similar to that of the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra 48 GPU cores, around 100 frames, particularly frames related to After Effects usage. As for the temperature emitted by the M1 Ultra on the Mac Studio, it's not a significant issue; generally, I rarely hear the fan noise, even during rendering. Typically, if the temperature emitted is excessive and exceeds the cooling capacity of the cooling system, performance will be throttled, but I haven't experienced this at all.
Perhaps these benchmarks haven't fully tapped into the potential, especially the 128GB RAM of this Mac Studio. However, it's evident that fully leveraging this hardware's power requires more specialized and demanding tasks than these benchmarks. Therefore, in the next experiment, I'll try to run heavier tasks, aiming to push this Mac Studio with 128GB RAM to its limits. Stay tuned for more updates! 😁
