According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next-generation MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch models are set to enter mass production in Q4 2022. However, both premium MacBook models are expected to be equipped with 5nm chips.
Kuo stated that, according to TSMC's documents, revenue from the production of 3nm chips will not begin until 2023, so the new MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models may still use chips based on TSMC's latest 5nm process.
Kuo's information seems to contradict a report from Taiwan's Commercial Times that the M2 Pro chip could be Apple's first 3nm chip and will be equipped on the two new MacBook Pro models.
While the details remain uncertain, reports suggest that TSMC plans to begin producing 3nm chips for Apple in the near future, so we'll have to wait and see if these chips will appear in any Macs first. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is developing MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and Mac Pro models powered by the M2 chip.
