Upgrading cavalry in Age of Empires is a popular and effective strategy, helping players understand how to upgrade technology stats for their cavalry before competing with opponents.
In the game Age of Empires, not all units have cavalry; some have cavalry, while others have camels. Armies with cavalry units include: Shang, Yamato, Choson, Greek, Roman, Macedonian, Palmyran, Hittite

When do you get cavalry units? Cavalry units are available from the Bronze Age onwards.
Where to upgrade technology? Cavalry technology is available in the BS and BC buildings.

Essentially, when advancing to age 3 in Age of Empires, cavalry units are newly generated. However, as early as age 2, you can already upgrade the technology for your cavalry.
You can temporarily refer to this as first technology upgrade
- First technology upgrade
To upgrade, select the BS building
Icon 1: Upgrade Attack for cavalry
Icon 2: Upgrade Defense (Armor) for cavalry
After completing the first upgrade, your cavalry will have Attack + 2, Defense (Armor) + 2
- Second technology upgrade
Upon reaching Age 3, after having enough food + Gold, you can go to the BS building to further upgrade Attack and Defense for cavalry
After completing the second upgrade, your cavalry will have Attack + 4, Defense (Armor) + 4
Also in Age 3, after upgrading Attack and Defense for cavalry, if you still have enough food + Gold, you can upgrade hit points in the BC building (government building) for cavalry. To upgrade this technology, select the BC building

- The hit points icon is only available for certain types of units such as: Shang, Yamato, Greek, Roman, Hittite
- Third technology upgrade
Upon reaching age 4, continue to the BS building and upgrade all Attack and Defense technologies for cavalry. After upgrading all technologies along with some other ones + having enough Food and Gold -> You can upgrade to God Slaying
To upgrade to God Slaying, you need to go to the BP building in Age of Empires - the Witch House and upgrade technology number (8)
- Note
- All upgrade technologies for cavalry apply to Camel units as well. However, when advancing to age 4, Camels do not have an upgrade to become Camel Gods similar to Cavalry Gods. However, Camels are excellent counters to cavalry. Therefore, in age 3, fully upgrading technologies at the BS building, one Camel charge can potentially eliminate a cavalry charge.
Once you have all the necessary technologies, your cavalry units will become incredibly formidable, especially in Age 3.
