A spokesperson for Facebook responded to TechCrunch saying: “we are working on a solution to keep users connected with their friends on both Facebook and Instagram”. “Facebook users will be able to see how many of their friends are active on Instagram”.
This is not the first time Facebook has experimented with merging attributes of applications. In May, the company tested a feature displaying notifications from other apps and allowed users to switch directly between applications.
Switching between multiple apps is displayed when users tap on the profile icon at the top corner of Facebook, Messenger, or Instagram.
