Recently, Google Maps has undergone significant changes in its user interface, some of which are considered unnecessary or unimportant. The good news is that crucial features have finally been introduced to the app, including speed trap warnings, speed limits while driving, and another noteworthy feature: users can now set departure times within Google Maps and estimate travel duration.

Setting departure and arrival times has been available on Maps for desktop for a long time, across all operating systems. However, on mobile devices, this feature is limited in public transportation modes. The final version of Google Maps 10.8.0 has introduced this feature. Users can find it in the overflow menu at the top right corner when checking each direction.
Additionally, users can select any date and time and estimate the duration to their destination (if departure time is set) or when they will start (if arrival time is set).
At this time, the app hasn't added reminders or notifications, so users won't be disturbed while driving. Furthermore, users cannot track traffic conditions, which could significantly alter their departure time in case of unexpected congestion.
If these options are added, the feature would serve as a good replacement for the reminders in the Google app, displaying events with set locations even when users are far away.
