Indeed, you can use Facebook Messenger on Mac OS X to chat with friends, and you can set up the Mac Messages app to function as a Facebook Messenger Client in OS X.
Using Facebook Messenger from Mac is quite simple, but it is completely separate from configuring Facebook Sharing from Mac. So you need to set up both to have the full functionality of Facebook: sharing, updating status, and messaging on OS X.
Adding Facebook Messenger to Messages on OS X
Essentially, this will turn the Messages App into a Mac Facebook Messenger Client. Follow the steps below to set it up:
Step 1: Open Messages App on Mac (if not already open).
Step 2: From the Messages menu, select Add Account….
Step 3: From the Choose a messages account to add ... window, select Other messages account…, then click Continue.
Step 4: On the next window, under Account Type select Jabber.
Step 5: Under Account Name, enter your Facebook account's username as: [email protected]:[email protected]
Where the user name is the name behind your Facebook URL. For example, if your URL link is: fb.com/Mytour. Your user name is Mytour, and in the Account Name field you will have to enter [email protected].
Step 6: Enter your Facebook account password in the Password field, this is the password you use to log into Facebook on the website or app.
Step 7: Skip all remaining settings and select Create to set up Facebook Messaging Client and you will see a list of your friends on Facebook.
Step 8: You can message any user just like usual, the conversation will switch to Facebook Messenger.
If you are using a Mac, your Facebook Messenger conversations may be right within the Messages App. Conversations will display similar to other text messages and you can add other accounts like iMessages, Google Chat, Yahoo Messenger, or AOL/AIM.
After adding Facebook Messenger to Messages, you will be automatically logged into Facebook Messenger when the Messages app is opened. To log out of Facebook Messenger in Messages, simply scroll down the Messages Menu and select 'Log out of chat.facebook.com' - similarly, you can log in that way as well.
You can access your list of friends anytime from the Windows Menu in the Messages App, where you can set your online or offline status.
Certainly, you will have to open a web browser window to access Facebook.com on Mac. But if you have already set up posting on Facebook and sharing on OS X, you can now have many Facebook features right on OS X without having to access Facebook.com to chat with friends, share, or update status.
What if you don't have Messages for OS X? All modern Mac versions have Messages, but if you are using an older Mac version using the iChat replacement app, you also don't have to worry because you can also use Facebook chat on iChat.
The configuration and setup process will be slightly different, but the protocol remains the same, such as the ability to chat with friends on Facebook. So, you can use Facebook Messenger on Mac OS X on any version of this operating system. If Facebook is blocked on the network or in the hosts file, Facebook Messenger will also be blocked.
Just like on Windows or mobile devices, when you're done using Facebook Messenger, users should log out of Facebook Messenger to avoid others from snooping on their information and the content of their messages sent to others. Logging out of Facebook Messenger is also simple, not as complex as many people think.
If you encounter any difficulties during the process, please contact the Admin team of Mytour for the most detailed explanations, everyone!
