Google Maps can be a delightful gift when you find yourself in an unfamiliar area. The app also offers a method to track the places you've visited. But what if you crave a bit of privacy and don't want Google Maps keeping tabs on your locations? Switch to Google Maps in Stealth Mode.

Switching to Incognito Mode on Google Maps
Make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps installed on your phone. Launch the app on your device and navigate to the main navigation screen.
In the top right corner of the screen, next to the empty bar where you enter the location you want to explore, you'll find your profile icon. Click on this icon to reveal your Google Maps profile.

Here, you'll discover several options to transfer your profile from this account to another. And below this option is the 'Activate Incognito Mode' feature.

Choose Close and you'll begin using Google Maps in incognito mode.

The interface of Google Maps, as well as its basic functions, remains unchanged for you to search for locations according to your needs.

After completing the use of the map in Incognito mode, you can return to regular Google Maps settings by simply tapping again on the incognito icon (the hat and black glasses) in the top right corner.

A new option titled 'Turn off Incognito mode' will appear. Select this option to exit Incognito mode.
Features of Incognito Mode
Google Maps' Incognito Mode functions similarly to the incognito mode provided by Google Chrome. This means that information related to the places you've visited won't be stored by Google. You can input any location into Google Maps, and the app will have no memory of that location after your trip ends. This is in stark contrast to how the app operates normally, where every location you visit is stored and used to create a personalized profile of your movements.
Although switching to Incognito mode provides higher privacy, it may also come with limitations. Some common features that won't function when you're in Incognito mode include:
- Sharing your location with others
- Receiving notifications or messages related to the places you've visited while in Incognito mode
- Access to search history to retrieve names of places you've previously visited
- Offline maps being stored in your app
Additionally, some less crucial features won't work, such as comprehensive search suggestions, Google Maps Contributions, Google Assistant's Micro in Navigation, and media integration.
Conclusion
Switching to Incognito mode while using Google Maps is an excellent way to maintain a certain level of privacy regarding the places you've been. However, keep in mind that using Incognito mode means you won't be able to access some useful features that Google Maps provides in regular user mode.
