Following the latest update to Windows 10 Insider Preview, many readers have lamented about the unavailability of Paint Classic on Win 10. This is because, after updating Win 10 to the new version, Microsoft temporarily removed Paint Classic from the Windows 10 system. Clicking on the old Paint icon now only opens Paint 3D.
Nevertheless, Paint Classic remains concealed within the system. Restoring and utilizing Paint Classic on Win 10 is relatively straightforward. You simply need to reactivate the display of Paint.
Important: You must uninstall Paint 3D Preview before proceeding to restore the old Paint Classic.
Using Paint Classic Instead of Paint 3D on Windows 10
Step 1: Access the Registry Editor on Windows 10. You can do this by several methods, including pressing the Windows + R key combination > typing regedit or regedit.exe.
Another method is to click the Start Menu > type Regedit and click on the search result or press Enter. Your computer will prompt you to access the Registry Editor, where you should click Yes.
Step 2: In the Registry Editor interface, navigate to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAppletsPaintSettings
Step 3: In the Paint key, under Settings, right-click and select New >DWORD (32-bit) Value to create a new value.
Enter the new value name as: DisableModernPaintBootstrap
Next, you can install Paint 3D Preview from the Windows Store. Currently, the installation file for Paint 3D Preview is only available to users who have updated to the latest Insider Preview. Users of Windows 10 Redstone 1 (Windows 10 Anniversary) who wish to install Paint 3D Preview and use this graphic design tool can refer to the installation guide on Windows 10 provided by Mytour.
Paint 3D Preview was launched in late October 2016 and is one of the new graphic design tools replacing Paint, Paint.NET, or even Photoshop. However, some features such as adding text to images or image stitching in Paint are easier to perform in Paint Classic. These features can also be carried out in many specialized graphic design software like Photoshop or PhotoScape.
